⁣ ⁣ Ottimo pianoforte 😜🎹

Sprinkling some whimsy into Czerny 🎀✨️ Sometimes the mere look of a score full of black notes can intimidate the young pupil. Adding drawings, colours and interactive questions can give a friendlier appearance and dilute the initial fear of trying something more advanced than usual. How I did this & you can too: • Find the relevant score on IMSLP (here: Czerny's The Young Pianist, Op. 823) • Download or export the file to preferred score-reading app (optional, but good to save file) • Take screenshots of the pages you want to use • In Canva, create a new empty design in A4 & upload the screenshots. Go to Edit —> Upscale (this turns the pictures into high quality) • To add graphics, go to Elements in the left bar and search for your desired object or aesthetic. • I also found this original score to be too dense-looking, so I cropped the pictures to separate each piece, then placed them further apart. • Save as PDF, print out & staple together to give to your pupil. Happy teaching! 🧤 #czerny #imslp #canva #피아노교육 #체르니

I had a particularly fun time putting this one together (Shoutout to Robert+Clara comparisons - low hanging fruit, I know. LOL) Meaningful programming starts with a teacher who does their research. I was also (finally) able to peruse @mundoarts_music Latin American and Iberian Art Songs by Women anthology! Thanks for continuing to support this series as I continue to have fun putting it together. Share with your students, teachers, and colleagues! Recognize the tune? It’s Mozart’s “Là ci darem la mano” from his opera Don Giovanni. Over the century that followed, the melody became so wildly popular that composers wrote variations, fantasies, and salon arrangements based on it. On @imslp.official alone, I found more than 50 such works — almost 10 hours of music! In creating my Mosaic Variations, I took the most beautiful and irresistible moments from these scores and assembled them into a brand-new Romantic-era work. I like to imagine all of the composers in a room pitching their best ideas, responding, elaborating, talking over one another... and somehow it works; it feels cohesive since they’re all riffing on the same theme by Mozart. This is Variation No. 1 (Triplets). In the scrolling score, each composer has a different color, so you can actually see the music passing from one historical source to another, all of which are listed below. I’m excited to premiere the complete work on my “Time Unraveled” recital program at @ivcperformingarts this Sunday, Sept 20 at 4pm. Tickets at link in bio. MOSAIC VARIATION NO. 1 (Triplets) • Frédéric Chopin: Variations for piano & orchestra on “Là ci darem la mano,” Op. 2 (1827) • Joseph Gelinek: Variations for piano on the duo “La ci darem la mano” from the opera Don Juan by Mozart (c. 1796) • Ludwig van Beethoven: Variations for two oboes & English horn on “Là ci darem la mano” from Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni, WoO 28 (1795) • August Eberhard Müller: Piano Sonata in A major, Op. 7 No. 1, II: Andante with Variations (c. 1795) • Franz Liszt: Reminiscences of Don Juan for piano, S. 418 (1841) • Nicolas Baldenecker: “La ci darem la mano” from the opera Don Giovanni by Mozart, arranged with variations for the piano, Op. 8 (c. 1820) • Henri Maylath: Celebrated Air from Don Juan, “Là ci darem,” Varied for Piano (1871) • Francesco Calegari: Variations for guitar on Mozart’s Duet “Là ci darem la mano,” Op. 18 (c. 1820)

One of my first loves is the music and scholarship of women composers. I am often asked by colleagues and students for repertoire suggestions to make a concert or recital more inclusive. Meaningful programming starts in the voice studio! Please enjoy some pedagogically/stylistically similar pieces to assign or sing next to your faves. If this is helpful, I will make more (a series??) - I’m in my content creator era. Some amazing organizations championing women in music: @boulangerinitiative @amodernreveal @kassiadatabase @hildegard_publishing Share with a voice teacher or student who may need some inspo! 🫶 —————— voice teacher classical music art song arias opera music school vocal juries singing teacher women composer musician inclusive pedagogy isabella colbran florence price pauline viardot ethel smyth
