One week ago, we released this piece into the world for Northern Alps Art Festival! 💧✨🌲🫧 @northern_alps_art_festival "A Whisper in the Eye of the Storm" is an immersive installation created from 14,000 prescription lenses. Towering above the viewer like a shimmering forcefield or suspended rain storm, the piece draws from the powerful relationship between the surrounding region and water – as a source of sustenance, electricity, leisure, and life. 💧 We designed this work in response to Omachi, a shrinking town in the Japanese Alps known for hydroelectric dams, beautiful mountainside lakes, and a rapidly shrinking population. "A Whisper in the Eyes of the Storm" invites visitors to see what they'd normally overlook. The work is installed in a cedar forest behind Nishina Shrine along the shore of Lake Kizaki. The work invites visitors to look at the landscape (and each other) with fresh eyes, seeing differently and peering deeply into the ancient and evolving landscape. In the 7 years since we built CLOUD for #NuitBlancheCalgary, we've had the profound pleasure of sharing the sculpture with people around the world - from Garage Museum in Moscow, to the futuristic shores of Marina Bay in Singapore, to the banks beneath Charles Bridge in Prague, to the @nac.cna in Ottawa beneath the watchful eye of Michael Bublé... and beyond! When we built this artwork (with much help from #palgary) we signed ourselves up for an unintentional tidal wave, c/o of a little #lightbulbcloud that drags us around by its rain drops. For the most part, it's been a dream, full of new friends and unbelievable landscapes. But there's also a fair amount of collateral damage. Whether it's near misses with heavy machinery, logistical nightmares, or rampant copyright infringements (often by people who should, and DO, know better), CLOUD has left little scars on our bodies and psyches. We discovered a new copy of the artwork today, in a commercial metropolitan area of a major city. As we prepare for the headache of legal gymnastics, we're taking a minute to feel some gratitude for all the incredibly lucky moments we've had with this shiny beast. The amazing experiences outweigh the cruddy ones, and lots of friends have our backs 💖 Somehow, our puffy little #incandescentcloud still holds magic. "Body of Water, Body of Light" at the Art Gallery of Alberta ✨ @youraga Missing in these images is the slow scintillation, the gentle motions of animacy. 21 of the suspended chains are slowly spinning. Two internal chandelier bulbs pulse on and off, falling in and out of sync. The piece gives the impression of being alive, but not in the way that you or I are alive... in the way that a beam of light carries the aliveness of dust in the sunshine, or a body of water carries the aliveness of gravity and flow. "Body of Water, Body of Light" is a visual incantation, intended for slow viewing. Visit this piece at the Art Gallery of Alberta from now until February 2027. A little behind the scenes of a pretty unique delivery. ☁️💡 This incredible cloud sculpture, made entirely from light bulbs, made its way to the Art Gallery of Alberta — and Encore was proud to help make the journey happen. A brand new piece for the Art Gallery of Alberta ✨️ "Body of Water, Body of Light" draws from the mysterious interspace between light and death. Hand-made from everyday optical materials and animated by simple mechanisms, the piece takes the form of a deconstructed human figure floating in a dark room. Gently twinkling and pulsing with the light of a glacial heartbeat, the figure appears ethereal, elemental, and watery – an angel and alien in equal measure. 🌌🔮 As you approach, the sculpture deconstructs into chandelier crystals, old necklaces, bits of glass, and everyday eyeglass lenses – found materials transformed into precious artifacts through a trick of the light. Drawing from the sacred and the mundane, "Body of Water, Body of Light" proposes a post-religious meditation on the luminosity of being. ✨️ You can visit this glittering creature in Edmonton, Canada at @youraga until February 2027 ✨️ . . . . . . . . . . The latest wild adventure for our little electrical CLOUD! ☁️💡 This beast was picked up last week for one of the most challenging load-ins ever - successfully accomplished, thanks to the stellar team at @youraga and the transport/crane crew from Encore! ✨️ Because CLOUD is a little too wide for both the hallway and the freight elevator at the Art Gallery of Alberta, we devised a tipping system to allow the sculpture to fit (just barely!) Additionally, the ceilings in the gallery are not rated to suspend our 1200 lbs sculpture (like we normally would indoors) so we had to load it onto the leg - which left the crane just 3 inches of clearance before hitting the ceiling!!!! 😱 😱😅😅 The @encoretrucking team worked their butts off to make this happen, smooth as can be 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Thanks to Jeff, Wyatt, Paulo, Connor, Chelsea, and to the AGA team Sara, Jesse, Clint, Catherine, Simone, and our install assistant for this past week, Borys! @borys.gov.ab.ca @smckarney CLOUD is part of The Light Fantastic, an exhibition of light-based sculptures from August 29 to February at the AGA. . . . . . . #incandescentcloud #sculpture #art #artgalleryofalberta #lightart taken in Art Gallery of Alberta by @incandescentcloud

Long story, short.... ✨️📚✨️ "Landscapes of the Imagination" is an artwork for a public library. We interviewed over 130 readers about their favourite books & stories, and then we built 50 of them inside floating globes, rising up into the atrium of their brand new library. This is the most unabashedly whimsical installation we've ever made, and yet it feels strangely important at a time when books are endangered by reduced readership, digital apathy, and overzealous politics. 🌟 Visit your local public library!
