📚🎶 Elisa Díaz Castelo is one of those rare writers who seems equally at home in fiction, poetry, and translation.

Her celebrated novel MALACRÍA explores disappearance, inheritance, secrets, and the ways the past is never really dead. Moving between mystery, and intimate family drama, it announces a bold and distinctive voice.

As a translator, Díaz Castelo has introduced Spanish-language readers to the work of Ocean Vuong. She also gave Rosalía a voice in English when she translated LUX's lyrics for the album's anglophone release.

Her poetry, collected in books such as PRINCIPIA and EL REINO DE LO NO LINEAL, is a plethora of scientific curiosity, finding unexpected connections between black holes and everyday life. ✨📖

📚✨ Congratulations to Piedad Bonnett on winning the 2026 Federico García Lorca International Poetry Prize! ✨📚

Piedad Bonnett's writing has touched readers for decades with its rare clarity about grief, motherhood, solitude, survival and the fragile art of carrying on.

While consolidating a body of work as novelist, playwright, and essayist, Bonnett's poetry, particularly, speaks powerfully about the experiences that shape life. From LO QUE NO TIENE NOMBRE and DONDE NADIE ME ESPERE to LA MUJER INCIERTA, her books resonate because they are at once deeply personal, deeply universal, deeply human.

This award is a fitting recognition of an extraordinary literary career and of the kind of poetry readers turn to for honesty and emotional candor. 🎉📖

"¡Yambambó, yambambé!" 🇨🇺 With Nicolás Guillén, poetry hits first in the ears, then in the heart. The great achievement of Guillén was not simply that he wrote about the Caribbean, Cuba, or the Americas. It was that he helped the continent hear itself. Reading him, reciting him, you discover that poetry is not separate from music, from memory, from the voices of ordinary people. It lives in sound before it lives in meaning.
On October 12, a date that invites reflection on the histories that shaped the Americas, it feels fitting to return to a poet that sought African, Caribbean, and popular traditions to enter the core of Spanish-language literature.

"Beauty is a terrible and terrifying thing". 📖

The line from Dostoevsky that opens Angélica Liddell's EL SILK ROAD feels less like an epigraph than a warning. El Silk Road follows the gaijin, or a foreign woman, wandering through Asakusa, where every café, alleyway and forgotten object becomes charged with meaning. In prose that is at once hallucinatory, lyrical and utterly singular, Angélica Liddell transforms Tokyo into a stage where ghosts, history, longing and imagination endlessly collide.

Part novel, part fever dream, love story and travelogue, El Silk Road asks what it means to be overwhelmed by beauty in a world increasingly devoted to efficiency, certainty and explanation. Liddell writes from the border between ecstasy and despair, producing a work as provocative as it is hypnotic, and one that lingers long after the final page.

Across more than three decades, Venegas has released a string of acclaimed albums, including Sí, Limón y Sal, Otra Cosa, and Algo Sucede, earning numerous Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, multi-platinum certifications, and a devoted global fan base. Her distinctive blend of pop, rock, and folk influences, has made her a cultural touchstone across the Spanish-speaking world.

EN LENGUA PRIVADA, Emiliano Monge's latest short story collection, is available now with @penguinlibrosmx! 🎉

These stories challenge their own fictional nature by venturing into statements and strategies that seem more fitting to an essay or narrative non-fiction. Although these texts seem to play at disguising themselves in the garb of other genres, they do not deny what they are, for each one ultimately reveals, through dialogue and dramatic tension, the intimate secrets of writing and the moments that make up a rather unique life. Here, the author reveals the creativity of memory and forgetting as well as the reasons for tracing our own experience through poetry, the multifaceted nature of the voices within us and those we encounter, and the unsettling presence of the double.

This book is, in turn, a reading diary in which the words of Sada, Montalbetti, Kristof, Moore, Coetzee and Di Benedetto infuse with meaning those moments when the ‘illness of language’ produces its most searing symptoms. In the background, Emiliano Monge, author and character, re-reads his past (or perhaps his future?) in these pages. 📚✨

In FANTASMA ESCRITOR (GHOST WRITER), Ezequiel Zaidenwerg turns his restless intelligence toward the forces that shape us: family, grief, inheritance, desire, and language. Part memoir, part literary investigation, the book kicks off with a simple premise, that trauma cannot fully be translated, and follows that idea into the fractures and echoes of family history.

As Zaidenwerg traces the roots of his own compulsive drive to translate, he searches for other ways of belonging: families built not on obligation or silence, but on reciprocity, respect, and joy. The result is a deeply personal narrative that blurs the boundaries between translator and writer, memory and invention.

Written in a rhythmic prose that seems to invite reading aloud, Fantasma Escritor asks what it means to listen closely to the voices that came before us, and whether finding the right words can help us become ourselves.

"A book about translation as a way of being in the world." — Fernanda Trías

Congratulations to Leila Guerriero for winning a 2026 Maria Moors Cabot Prize! 🎉🎉
Leila Guerriero has transformed the craft of long-form journalism in the Spanish language over the three decades of her career. Today, she is one of the most influential voices in that hybrid tradition between journalism and literature that is in conversation with the work of global figures such as Elena Poniatowska and Svetlana Alexievich.

Her chronicles and profiles, published in leading media outlets across Latin America, the United States, and Europe, illuminate complex realities shaped by historical memory, inequality, and violence, without ever lapsing into simplification or the stereotypes that so often persist about the region. Her method is unmistakable: extraordinary patience, a meticulous approach to the inner lives of her subjects, and a quality of listening that allows witnesses silenced by history, or by their own restraint, to say what they have never been able to say before.

Guerriero does not retell what we already know; in every narrative she makes a discovery. That is what happens in “El rastro de los huesos,” about the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team, and in her recent book “La llamada,” which reconstructs the public and intimate keys to repression during the Argentine dictatorship. In “Plano americano,” her profiles trace a living cultural map of the Spanish-speaking world.

Her work as editor of anthologies such as “Los malditos,” “Los malos,” and “Extremas” has expanded the Latin American canon. Since 2002, she has trained generations of chroniclers in workshops and master’s programs across the region and Europe. And in an era that prizes speed over understanding, Guerriero insists on pausing, on listening, and on complexity.

For her rigorous, patient, and revelatory journalism, the Maria Moors Cabot Jury is proud to award Leila Guerriero the Cabot Gold Medal. by @indentagency
