El fin de semana pasado fuimos testigos de increíbles esfuerzos de revitalización de las culturas originarias de esta región. El Powwow de los Ojos de Agua Sagrados en San Marcos, Texas, y el trabajo del @indigenouscultures son sólo un ejemplo de que las lenguas durmientes del noreste de México y Texas se pueden despertar.

A Halloween costume may last one night, but the stereotypes it reinforces last much longer.

Indigenous peoples are not costumes, stereotypes, or figures from the past. We are living peoples, cultures, communities, and nations.

This Halloween, choose creativity without turning someone else’s identity into a disguise.

Today, we honor those who came before us, those carrying these traditions forward, and the generations still to come.

We gathered.

We carried the songs into the arena. We honored those who came before us and welcomed the next generation.

To the dancers, singers, drum groups, elders, families, vendors, volunteers, and everyone who helped carry the 2026 Sacred Springs Powwow: thank you.
