A belated Happy Indigenous Peoples Day! Which is every day so this post is right on time ;)

I’ve been thinking a lot about my reconnection journey this past year. I stepped into a new role that has allowed me to support Indigenous groups & communities doing incredibly important work across Turtle Island and beyond. It has served as an important reminder of how much I still have to learn and how beautiful and messy and important that cycle of growth can be.

I am grateful for all the people who have been part of my growth and my journey. I am grateful for the way that running and spending time outside has allowed me to (re)connect with the land and water. & by extension, the way that connection has allowed me to (re)connect with myself along the way. Colonization intended to sever that connection with the land, with each other and with ourselves so part of my work to decolonize means doing the work to heal those connections and to be a good relative.

Jewish identity didn’t start in exile. It started in the Land of Israel. That’s where we became a people. That’s where Hebrew, our language, and Judaism, our faith, grew up. Over 3,000 years. You can see it in the Temples. In the archaeology. In the history.

And the genetics prove it too — Mizrahi, Sephardi, Ashkenazi, we all carry those same ancient Levantine roots.

We were forced out. Again and again. But exile doesn’t make you less Indigenous. That connection never broke.

Happy Indigenous People’s Day 🪶
Indigenous Peoples’ Day honors the history, cultures, resilience, and
contributions of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians. It highlights centuries of cultural persistence, creative adaptation, and ongoing survival despite historical violence, forced displacement, and systemic assimilation.

Today, we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day 🩵🌿

Today is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate Indigenous peoples, cultures, histories, and continued relationships with the land and water we all depend on.

As an environmental education organization, we recognize the importance of honoring Indigenous knowledge, uplifting Indigenous voices, and learning from the deep relationships Indigenous communities have with the natural world.

We are grateful for the Elders and communities at @indigenouscultures and @amaherbschool for their guidance as we weave these ways into our work! 🌀

Today and every day, we celebrate Indigenous communities and their ongoing stewardship of the lands and waters we call home 🩵

Chief Joseph Wind River has been an incredible ambassador for Israeli people and Jews everywhere.

I feel so comforted when I hear him speak or watch his videos.

With so much hate in the world today, how fantastic to find this loving connection with indigenous people. We all need to cleave to each other in solidarity!

I thank you sir, from the bottom of my heart!
