Thr33, 11” x 15”, watercolor and pencil (2024)

Thr33 is a visual reminder that we are always in a state of constant change. The title refers to the number 333, a synchronicity that prompts me to pause and realign my mind, body, and spirit. These quiet check-ins have become an anchor in both my creative practice and daily life. The piercings represent the growth that comes from pain.

For this piece, I chose a more realistic style to portray faces I created using my own as a reference. The green beam coming from the eye symbolizes the mantra: “Wherever attention goes, energy flows.” This guiding principle, along with the significance of 333, grounds me and helps me stay present in moments of transformation and change.

These are just a few mantras that have helped shape my process and perspective. My hope is that they offer something meaningful to you as well. by @indijart

A self-taught artist born in Denver and raised in Indianapolis, India Hines’ practice is rooted in intuition, spirituality, and the subconscious. Their deeply meditative process allows emotion, memory, ancestry, and spiritual guidance to shape each work, exploring themes of identity, lineage, resilience, intimacy, and transformation.

Drawing from their African American and Melanesian heritage, Hines honors ancestry, myth, and the human spirit while creating work that invites viewers to slow down, reflect, and reconnect. As Hines describes their practice, “I see my practice as a space for both self-discovery and connection.” They believe that “art is never created in isolation,” but is shaped by the people, places, and experiences that surround us.

So excited to share this illustration I created as a visual contributor for Sixty Inches From Center! ✨

I’m so grateful to the Sixty team for commissioning me to create artwork for this piece. It was such a fun experience bringing the article to life visually and getting to play around in Procreate in a way I don’t always get to with my traditional work.

The article is about “a perfume-enthusiast who delves into the scenes of Chicago’s first indie perfume expo and muses on what she suspects drives her fellow enthusiasts’ perfume interests”.

The idea for this piece originally came to me during one of my sketch clubs. I host Indy Sketch Club once a month at @camimuseum, creating space for people to slow down, connect, and make art alongside one another.

Our next gathering is August 28th. 🌀

Our Summer Kickback is on July 10th!! Put it in your calendar :). Come enjoy an evening of climbing at @northmassboulder, shop and support local Black artists and creatives in the courtyard, and vibe out to @dj5lap! You’ll find handmade beadwork and jewelry, wearable crochet items, prints, paintings, and drawings for sale, beautiful bouquets of flowers, tarot readings, and handmade leather bags! There will be a limited amount of pizza to snack on from Shin Dig (first come, first serve - vendors eat first).

The signup sheet opens this Friday at 6:30 PM, and will close at 6:30 PM on July 10th. Make sure you sign up in order to use the Pay What You Can option. The vendors and courtyard are open to the entirety of the community and anyone who finds themselves at NMB that night!
