POSTS STORIES REELS

We have office drawers, but without a good order system they turn into one big mess. A while ago we attempted to solve that with laser cut inserts made from waste cardboard. It worked, but only halfway. The boxes were okay, but the fit was not perfect, and they were not really made for being taken out of the drawer many times.
So we redesigned everything and cut new boxes from thin MDF sheets with our Sculpfun S70 Max. Same drawer, same tools, but better tolerances and thinner walls.
As the parts come off the laser, we clean the edges, push out the small pieces that get stuck, and start assembling. The joints are designed as press fit. No glue needed. Because MDF thickness always varies a bit, the fit is intentionally tight. That’s why the hammer comes in. But once they’re together, they’re very solid. In fact, the MDF would break before the boxes come apart.
It’s only a small project, but it’s exactly the kind we enjoy doing for ourselves to improve our workflow and make time in the office more enjoyable.

No hace falta pegamento.

Time to bring more order into our office. We take out the old cardboard boxes and drop the new MDF inserts into the drawer. Every box matches the drawer dimensions, but also the objects we actually use. Pens, clips, notes, glue sticks, you name it. Plus a bit of extra space for future additions.

The layout follows how we work. The things we use every day sit at the front, easy to grab. In the back are the tools or supplies we rarely touch. They’re still there, but harder to reach. That’s a compromise we accepted because the drawers don’t pull out all the way. This way, no space is wasted, just different levels of access.

This is why we like making our own systems. They don’t try to be perfect or universal. They respond to real constraints, our habits, and our needs. Everything is in place now. Mission completed.

Responden a limitaciones reales, a nuestros hábitos y a nuestras necesidades. Ahora todo está en su lugar. Misión cumplida.

Let’s welcome our new Sculpfun S70 Max laser cutter and engraver to the Nopal Design workshop.
We already own a laser model from Sculpfun, the S9, which was a great tool when it came out. But the last two to three years have brought a lot of development to the desktop laser market, so unboxing the Sculpfun S70 Max felt like stepping into a different category. The first thing you notice is the size. The working area is huge at 830 mm by 800 mm, compared to the 410 mm by 420 mm of the Sculpfun S9. Almost four times what we had before, which opens up many more possibilities.
The whole frame is more massive and feels much sturdier, which it needs to be to carry the larger laser module. The power is on a different level as well. While the S9 uses a 5.5 watt module, the S70 Max comes with a 70 watt module. It’s designed to handle thicker materials like softwood or plywood, and it cuts through thick cardboard in a single pass where the S9 needed at least two passes at a much slower speed.
On our Sculpfun S9 we had to install many modifications and upgrades ourselves. The S70 Max already includes several of these features: air assist, limit switches, a drag chain, an emergency switch, proper belt tensioning. It also comes with a crosshair laser for easier positioning and a Z-axis that automatically adjusts to the material thickness. Even a lock and key to prevent unauthorized use is built in.
The only thing we’re missing now is a place to put it, so for the moment it’s sitting on our workbench.
We’re excited to test the new laser and see what it can do in our prototyping workshop. If you have ideas or questions about the Sculpfun S70 Max, feel free to ask. by @industrieformgestalter

We spent the day at Semana @fayd_ucol surrounded by students, teachers, and friends of design. It felt more like a reunion than a formal event. Between conversations, quick sketches, and walks through the exhibits, we were reminded why we enjoy sharing what we do: It sparks ideas in both directions.

The most valuable part was listening to the questions people asked us. They often pointed to details we take for granted in our everyday work. That kind of exchange keeps our practice alive. by @industrieformgestalter

We took part in Semana @fayd_ucol at the University of Colima with two conferences and one workshop.

The most rewarding part wasn’t just sharing our work, but the exchange that followed: unexpected questions, reflections on craft, and conversations about how we work in the studio.

Here’s a glimpse of the slides we used, for those who couldn’t join us.

Unboxing the BOSCH RA1181 Router Table

For those who still get excited about new tools, we just unboxed and assembled our BOSCH RA1181 router table.
It’s a compact but powerful addition to our workshop, transforming a handheld router into a complete router table setup. Perfect for expanding the range of tasks we can take on.

We chose BOSCH for its reliability and build quality: a solid aluminum tabletop, a router plate with pre-drilled holes, an aluminum fence with integrated dust extraction, an emergency switch, and even featherboards are included.

Which makes the RA1181 a great fit for our space.

It’s been a long time since I boarded a train in Germany. Today’s ride isn’t just a journey to a meeting—it’s a personal moment of reflection. After years of living in Mexico, this is my first longer train trip back on home tracks. The quiet rhythm, the organized motion, and the familiar landscape outside the window all bring back a sense of embedded routine.

In Mexico, public mobility has its own unique dynamics—versatile, adaptive, and deeply shaped by local contexts. A national train system for passengers is currently being developed, a promising step toward more sustainable travel options. Experiencing both systems makes me reflect on how mobility reflects cultural values, and how design can shape not just infrastructure, but the way we move, connect, and feel at peace. by @industrieformgestalter

When I started transforming this little patch of sealed ground into a garden, I didn’t expect nature to respond so quickly. But within weeks, butterflies like this one began to arrive, proving just how impactful even the smallest green spaces can be. Creating a biodiverse garden, even on a few square meters, is a simple yet powerful way to contribute to local ecosystems. Here in Mexico, I’ve learned that sustainability often starts with small, deliberate steps—and it’s incredible to see how life shows up when we make space for it. by @industrieformgestalter

From street dog to sheet dog 🐕✨

This is Matzi, the embodiment of resilience and grace. When I first found him, he was a street dog in the truest sense—scarred, skinny, and uncertain of his place in the world. With time, love, and a lot of care, he’s become a portrait of sophistication and dignity.

Watching him now, basking in the sunlight, it’s hard to believe how far he’s come. His journey isn’t just about the look, but about transformation and a reminder that acts of kindness can be rewarding in ways we cannot foresee. 🐾 by @industrieformgestalter
