Matsya is the third of three films we are presenting next week in Nice with Radical Ocean Futures and @tba21academy.

In this allegorical short, an ark ship roams the high seas, visiting threatened ecosystems and coastal communities, acting as a vault for those species, practices, and languages that are existentially threatened by the climate crisis.

Through three new short films, we’ve worked with Radical Ocean Futures and @tba21academy to ask how science/speculative fiction could shape the future of earth’s oceans beyond policy reports. These provocations premiere next week in Nice (link in bio).

In MANA, we explore the vital role of ‘large ocean states’ in marine governance across the Pacific. This film imagines how future attitudes toward marine protection, harvest and logistics might be radically adjusted by higher fidelity sensing and tracking of our oceans in combination with a return to far older cultural traditions of ocean stewardship.

We are excited to premiere three new short films at a workshop for the UN Oceans Conference in Nice next week. These films were developed with Radical Ocean Futures and @tba21academy and they tell speculative stories of governance, resource extraction + activism, and the preservation of threatened existences.

In Havsrå, we explore the looming shadows of deep sea rare-earth mining, and the ways in which civil society resistance to extractive ocean industries might reverberate through culture.

Excited to kick off our next studio brief for the RCA MA Architecture programme today. This year we investigate ‘Phase Change’ in cities and their edgelands - searching for ‘Thin Places’ where futures (climatic/technological/ecological) feel closer. taken in Royal College of Art School of Architecture by @inferstudio

M.A.N.A - another of our films from the Oceans Futurisms project - has also been selected to screen at SIGGRAPH in LA this year! It will be shown on both Monday and Wednesday at 6:30pm in Hall K.

Thank you again to our co-creators on the project @tba21academy and Radical Ocean Futures. And of course to @_no_ur.hh who designed the digital humans and their animations on this film.

ENTANGLED OCEAN: SHORELINE SIGNALS

Life on land is deeply entangled with the Ocean. Today, the shoreline simultaneously represents the threshold to the world’s only remaining wilderness and the looming threat of climate catastrophe.

This year, we investigated coastlines at tipping points. From contaminated estuaries, to eroding seaside towns, to societies threatened by tsunami, to maritime bordering practices; we looked for ‘listening posts’; places of heightened sensitivity to oceanic futures.

Set within these ‘listening posts’, our projects act as architectural scenarios - provocations for how we might adapt not only our spaces, but also our values and practices. Drawing on documentary fieldwork that we conducted with communities already on Ocean frontlines, our projects extrapolate critical fictions; pointing to radical shifts in how and why we build, warning of the dangers of maintaining the status quo, and returning us to more ancient ways of relating to unstable ground.

Our studio seeks the stories, values and ways of being that are needed to repair a scarred world. Acting as a space to rehearse our fears and desires, ADS13 imagines worlds that are not yet, but may yet be…

Yesterday we shared how we made ‘Daughter of the Stars’ (@innerstarsseries) at @annecyfestival; it’s a stage we honestly never expected we’d have the chance to show the work on! It was certainly surreal to present many years of intense work alongside industry giants who we have long admired.

We are really grateful to @autodesk_me / @autodeskflowstudio for inviting us to speak about our mocap process.

And so proud of @_no_ur.hh of @impersonas and @ludvig.holmen for the incredible artistry you both brought to the characters and animation in this piece.

This project owes its existence to our amazing producers @mhiluta and @bucnicholas - we are, as always profoundly grateful for your support and willingness to trust us in our wild experiments in bringing the visuals of your project to life. taken in Impérial Palace Annecy by @inferstudio

OcéanoFuturismos, created by Inferstudio in collaboration with TBA21–Academy and Radical Ocean Futures, has received an Honorary Mention at the S+T+ARTS Prize 2026 by Ars Electronica.

This project rehearses questions for the future of ocean policy and governance through speculative scenario-making and worldbuilding, and was premiered during the UN Oceans Conference in Nice 2025 as part of a science fiction prototyping workshop organised by TBA21.

Congratulations to Inferstudio, Radical Ocean Futures, and everyone involved in this recognition!

Another inspiring voice joins the WVF 2026 stage. ✨

Meet Inferstudio, the creative practice founded by Bethany Edgoose and Nathan Su, where worldbuilding, design, technology and storytelling come together to explore possible futures.

From immersive films and environmental visualisations to large scale projects presented at the Sydney Opera House and the UN Oceans Conference, their work challenges audiences to think differently about our relationship with the planet and the worlds we are creating.

At WVF 2026, Bethany and Nathan will share insights into speculative futures, digital storytelling and the power of immersive media to shape conversations about the world around us.

Don’t miss the opportunity to meet them in Warsaw.

Get your ticket and join us at WVF 2026 (link in bio). 🎟️🌍

We are very happy to host Prototype Worlds, a talk from Bethany Edgoose and Nathan Su, co-founders of Inferstudio

The talk will take place at our Cinematic and Videogame Architecture Studio, UCL East Marshgate, this Friday, 22 May, starting at 17:30.

PROTOTYPE WORLDS
In Prototype Worlds, we will peek behind the curtain at Inferstudio’s worldbuilding process. We share stories on how we created the fantastical environments and characters of ‘Daughter of the Inner Stars’ - a 50 minute original animation accompanying a live orchestral performance. We will explore how critical fiction can facilitate inter-disciplinary collaboration and inspire urgent value shifts through a deep dive into ‘Ocean Futurisms’ - a series of speculative films presented at the 2025 UN Ocean’s Conference. The lecture will also offer a window into some works from our investigative portfolio, looking into how we visualise complex datasets in both artistic and research contexts.

BIO: Inferstudio is a digital worldbuilding and investigative design studio. We create immersive films and images that imagine fictional futures; both aspirational and cautionary. We also develop digital visualisations that interpret and communicate complex environmental realities from our world today. Our projects converge around themes of ecology, land/ocean-scapes, and extended reality.
Inferstudio is directed by Bethany Edgoose and Nathan Su. Bethany is an editor, writer, and researcher with a background in anthropology and international studies. Before Inferstudio, she worked as a cyber-security analyst and a nuclear security researcher. Nathan is a designer, technologist, and researcher with a background in architecture. He has worked as an advanced researcher for Forensic Architecture, and has taught in architecture schools internationally, including at UCLA, the Architectural Association (AA), and Strelka Institute. They currently teach Architecture Design Studio 13 together at the Royal College of Art (London) within the MA Architecture programme. by @inferstudio
