“The TSU Collection began with a series of pieces discovered by Lemon’s creative director, @kevinfrankental , during visits to a small workshop the studio has worked with for many years. Made for Rare Find, a Cape Town exhibition in 2003, the designs had been stored away for more than two decades.

Working with limited resources at the time, the designers used smaller sections of timber and combined different species, including ash and cherry. What began as a practical response to what they had available became one of the collection’s defining characteristics — diamond-shaped joints, contrasting timbers and visible connections.”

“I love places where art and architecture are intertwined. Next door to the Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, The Silo is home to more than 300 works from the owner’s private collection, scattered everywhere from the rooms to the corridors.
Basically, there’s always something to look at, even before you get to the view.’ Amal Rakibi

“Cape Town has really evolved into a global player on the hospitality stage. In London and New York, private members’ spaces have become almost an extension of people’s living rooms, and it makes sense that we’re now seeing that evolution in Cape Town too,” Samantha Wallace by @inge_prins

“Do you believe in signs?” asks South African ceramicist @Cara_Bauermeister_ceramics whose return to clay began with two fragments of buried porcelain unearthed in the garden of her Somerset West home. @cabanamagazine @emmabecque visits the artist’s farmhouse and studio, where a lifelong fascination with craftsmanship, collecting and the natural world has shaped both the interiors and her coveted ceramics.

Where the day begins with the Atlantic.
Morning light moves through sheer curtains, warming natural textures, sculptural details and spaces designed to feel quietly residential.
Beyond the room, Camps Bay waits — blue ocean, palms and the rhythm of the coast just outside.
At Morea House, the destination doesn’t begin when you leave your room. It finds its way in. taken in Morea House, Autograph Collection by @inge_prins

Thank you, @charl_edwards and everyone else on the team.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness for the Adderley Street market through my work.

The Issue
‘Stand with Cape Town’s Historic Adderley Street Flower Sellers!
For more than 150 years, flower sellers have traded at Trafalgar Place on Adderley Street.
This vibrant flower market is one of the oldest traditions in Cape Town and an important part of the city’s cultural heritage. Families have worked here for generations, supplying flowers to residents, businesses, and visitors from around the world.
The City is now proposing a new Informal Trading Plan that would dramatically change the market by:
 • Limiting the market to only 20 demarcated trading bays
 • Restricting trading hours to 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM instead of the historic 24-hour trading tradition
 • Requiring long-standing flower sellers to apply for permits subject to City approval
 • Restructuring the historic market site without guaranteeing existing traders their place
These changes could displace traders, reduce livelihoods, and erase a tradition that has existed since the 1800s.
The Adderley Street Flower Market is not just informal trade. It is a living cultural landmark that makes Cape Town unique.”

There are various petitions online
Please look them up and engage with this issue!

Our latest spring edition marks the start of a new season – one that is fully Flower, and the first chapter for House and Leisure and SOFACOMPANY’s collaborative campaign.

Our first feature, part of an ongoing series of four, spotlights the heritage, creativity and culture rooted in the Adderley Street Flower Market. Through the photographic lens and mind of Inge Prins, platform and living archive of House and Leisure, and design and legacy of SOFACOMPANY – we celebrate (quite beutifully) the importance of conversations, around a sofa ;)

To delve deeper into this topic – read ‘Conversations in Bloom’, House and Leisure Volume 22 (Flower) and tune in to our ‘In Good Company’ podcast video series (coming soon).

(@houseandleisure + @sofacompany_southafrica + @thelookbook + @jackson_street_studio + with special thanks to @agentemmarepresents)

“Set high above the Atlantic in Bantry Bay, Ellerman House feels less like a hotel and more like a private South African home shaped by art, wine and heritage.”

It was so inspiring to spend some time at the beautiful Ellerman House. The views are incredible, and the staff are so professional and friendly.
The art collection really fed my soul. Such a good reminder of why quality art will always be a worthwhile investment for any interior.
Human-made art feeds our nervous systems on a very deep level.

I love travelling and shooting in locations outside of Cape Town.
It’s always amazing to notice how differently light falls in other areas, cities, or countries.
So many factors influence the quality of light.

Sunrise and sunset are generally always beautiful, no matter where you are, and there are no times of day more famous for photography than “Golden Hour”.
