Above the hash marks — stay on your feet. At the hash marks — slide. That's the rule, and explains exactly why it works. Coming off the best adjusted save percentage in the NHL last season with Calgary, sat down with InGoal for another extended Pro Reads breakdown — this time on a 2-on-0 rush chance against New Jersey where the whole play hinges on one decision: when do you commit, and when do you wait? The short answer is head tracking. "Your eyes are going to go first," he says. "So that puck is passed, and the first thing that's going to go is my head, so I'm watching it." From there it's threat recognition — reading body language on the first pass receiver to know he's not a shooter, buying time to cheat toward the secondary pass, and then committing to the slide only once the puck gets to hash-mark depth. He also gets into Calgary's depth philosophy — never outside the blue except on breakaways or 2-on-1s — and how he's adjusted his game since arriving in the AHL and working his way up. "You definitely don't want an aggressive depth, but you do want a little bit of a drift, so that way you can move from side to side." Presented by @vizualedge. Full breakdown at the link in bio.

Bobrovsky runs the same edge control routine every single day. Not because his skating is broken — because elite goalies know the foundation is always the first thing to check. That's one of the ideas Ian Clark unpacks in Episode 6 of The Last Line, and it reframes how you think about goalie development from the ground up. Clark's development pyramid puts skating and edge control at the base. Everything else — positioning, save execution, post-save response — grows from command of the edges. It sounds obvious until you realize how many development programs skip past it to work on flashier stuff. The episode also gets into Clark's save-process model (preparation, execution, post-save response), how he finds meaningful early improvements with experienced goalies without blowing up their game, and the Q&A question about whether young goalies are better off learning edges in player skates or goalie skates. His answer: strong general edge control matters more than the skate model. The position-specific movement can come after the foundation is there. If your goalie's entire identity is wrapped up in the position, that's a problem — and most hockey families don't notice until something goes wrong. In Episode 372 of the Parent Playbook, presented by @stop_it_goaltending, InGoal digs into something that gets overlooked in the grind of the season: making sure your goalie has a life — a real sense of self — outside of hockey. It sounds obvious. It isn't. The position is uniquely consuming. Goalies carry the weight of every goal against, they specialize earlier than almost any player on the ice, and the culture around the position quietly encourages an all-in identity from a very young age. The episode uses the timing of Canadian Thanksgiving as a prompt to step back — to celebrate ordinary life, to notice what your goalie loves beyond the rink, and to actively protect space for those things even when the schedule makes it hard. Because a goalie who only knows how to be a goalie is fragile in ways that don't show up until the pressure spikes — a rough stretch, an injury, a season that doesn't go the way anyone hoped. Nicole Hensley won the Walter Cup twice in Minnesota. Now she's the face of a brand-new crease in Las Vegas — and she's one of 46 goalies on PWHL camp rosters that were released Wednesday. InGoal broke down every move, every new signing, and every camp invite across all 12 teams. Here's what stands out. On the move: Corinne Schroeder — whose five PWHL shutouts are tied for third all-time — became the first player San Jose ever signed. Kayle Osborne, who started 27 of 30 games for New York last season, lands in Hamilton on a three-year expansion deal. Elaine Chuli heads to New York after winning the Isobel Cup with Toronto in 2022-23. New to the league: Detroit's first-ever draft pick was Andrea Brändli, a 29-year-old Swiss goalie who posted a .953 save percentage at the Milano Cortina Olympics and was named the tournament's best goaltender. Detroit also signed Alice Philbert, who made herself eligible for France by spending two seasons playing men's hockey in the French third and fourth tiers before leading the EWHL with a .936 save percentage. Minnesota's new face is Daria Gredzen, who at 17 was Russia's goalie at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and just won the Russian women's league's goaltender of the year award with a .939 save percentage. San Jose's first goalie pick is Tia Chan — the 2026 women's college hockey goalie of the year, who made 57 saves in a double-overtime Hockey East final. Four expansion rosters. Unsigned veterans with one preseason to prove it. Every name is in the full breakdown — link in bio.

While the goalie’s technical engine drives movement and positioning, the upper body does the reading.

STABLE UPPER BODY
For the goalie to play with clear eyes and clear mind, upper body stability is vital.

LEGS AND FEET ARE ACTIVE
This means that while the lower body is active, the torso, arms, hands, and head must move with stability.

ARMS AND HANDS ARE STABLE
The reason is simple. If, for example, the hands and arms are swinging or out of control, this instability will extend to the head and eyes.

TRAINING FOCUS
When training, it is very important that goalies focus on this stability in the upper body so that their supercomputer is stable and can be fully leveraged.

STABILITY DELIVERS CLARITY
Instability means clouded visuals and decision making. Stability delivers clear eyes and clear mind – essential attributes of the elite netminder.

TRUE's 3D-printed lattice tongue showed up on Pyotr Kochetkov's Instagram before most people even knew it existed — and it turns out it's not just for custom skate orders. It attaches with Velcro, which means it fits the TRUE goalie skates you already own: stock Catalyst 7X6, the older 7X4 and 5X4 line, and any custom TRUE skate. InGoal Radio presented by @thsgoal gets into exactly what it does and whether it's worth it. Three things the lattice does that a traditional tongue doesn't: Forward flex. The lattice bends with your ankle instead of fighting it, so you actually get better ankle mobility inside the skate. Lace-bite protection. It's built thicker right where the laces press into the front of your ankle. That's not an accident — that's the whole point of the design in that zone. Airflow. Because it's open, air moves through it during play and the skate dries out faster after. Anyone who's pulled a soaked tongue out of a bag knows why that matters. New this year: the Velcro on the underside is now stitched in on every model. Early versions were glued only and some peeled. That's been addressed. The trade-off worth knowing: one pro in Europe tried it this summer and switched back. Snow was getting through the lattice into his skate. The same openness that lets air in lets snow in. Indoors it's a non-issue, but outdoor or cold conditions could be a problem depending on your rink. Price is C$179.99 for the pair. And TRUE is currently the only brand with the Velcro attachment system, so it won't drop into a Bauer or CCM. Full breakdown at the link in bio.

Coaching the PWHL MVP is one thing. Lenny Mosca also has to prepare for the moments where even Nikita Kucherov might show up on the other team's roster. Episode 372 of InGoal Radio features Mosca — goalie coach for the Boston Fleet — talking through his full path: D3 NCAA player, then coach at the same school, high school, junior, running Masscrease Goaltending School, and now working with one of the best goalies in the world in the PWHL. He gets into the drills and lessons that carry across every level he's coached, and what the day-to-day actually looks like when your goalie just won Olympic gold and PWHL MVP. Also in this episode: the Parent Playbook uses Canadian Thanksgiving as a jumping-off point for something worth hearing — your goalie needs an identity that exists outside the game, and it's on the people around them to help build that. In gear, InGoal looks at True's new 3D-printed tongue option for their goalie skates — available across their lineup, and the fit difference is real. And in Pro Reads, Dylan Garand of the Rangers walks through how he handles pucks behind the net, including a specific breakdown of reading Kucherov in that situation.
