A little improv where both the piano and I are out of tune, but not with each other.
...

My piano has yet to be tuned post-move. I also have to be "tuned" myself, but I am working on it. Even if we're both out of tune, we have each other, and we are starting this new chapter together. I thought it would be nice to share a moment of the two of us before she gets tuned, as beautifully imperfect as we both are.

In an A.I. artworld, sometimes it's nice to post something off-the-cuff, filled with mistakes and hesitations, because that's what makes it real and human. There is a journey you take with your instrument when you improvise (whether alone or with others), and it fills me with something that no artificially made art can ever give me.

...

After nearly 20 years, my time in Toronto has come to an end. I spent my last night walking in the ravines, visiting the Evergreen Brickworks, and looking out over the tree canopy on my ravourite bridge of the entire city (my favourite spot of the entire city). There, I said goodbye to a massive chapter in my life, to the young me that cultivated so much with hope, to a love that meant so much to me.
.
I said goodbye to a version of my life and of Toronto that now exists in the past.
.
As sad as it is, there is also new hope and joy coming out of it. A new chapter is about to begin, starting with the return to my home city. I have lost my way as an artist over the last two years, using up nearly all of my free time to fight for everyone's right to safe and affordable housing. I have gone to City Hall to talk about policy and to share my life story about how deeply affordable RGI social housing helped my family live with dignity and work their way to a better life. I even spoke at the Standing Committee at Queen's Park over the need for accessible housing.
.
My soul needs me to be an artist again. It has been depleted by the fight against the financialization of housing. I have decided to take this time to focus on my upcoming album because music and art are what heal me and nourish me.
.
Goodbye, Toronto! Thank you for the growth and good times. Please take care of all of my loved ones who still live within your limits. 💙 by @inkxns

It's been a rough 2 weeks.
The days have been long.
The fight for housing is real.
My sleep and my diet are a mess.
But still, I push through.
.
There have been unforeseen highs and sudden extreme lows, and my body reacts to it all in ways that I have no control over.
But still, I push through.
.
As promised, here is a little music.
This is an unnamed improvisation that I did tonight during a deep low. I just sat at my piano, turned on the camera, and let whatever came out come out.
.
Thank you to those who continue to follow me and support me! I know you didn't choose to follow me to hear about the housing affordability crisis, my upcoming demoviction, and my fight to try and help anyone I can through this insane and completely avoidable next wave of loss of affordable housing in Toronto.
.
So here's an intimate, unedited, unstaged moment of me with my piano trying not to crumble under weight of it all.
.
I hope it can bring you a small moment of peace, relief, catharsis, or camaraderie in whatever it is you are facing yourself. 💙💚❤️‍🩹🎹

Tonight, I gave my first speech ever at a rally. 📢

I spoke about how for-profit housing is at the heart of the housing affordability crisis.

I spoke about how the developer, who applied to demovict me and the tenants of my building, is doing it strictly for money, at the expense of our well-being and right to a home.

I spoke about how we need to care for the most vulnerable populations and that when we do, everyone benefits from it.

I spoke about how we need to stop celebrating profits over basic human rights.

After I came back home, lucky that I currently still have a home (because so many don't), I decided to let out some of my feelings with one of my favourite songs ever. Running For Home by the Matthew Good Band. Because today, it feels like like so many of us are running and fighting for a home.
.
💣💥🏚🏠🏢😮‍💨
.
