It was an incredible two weeks in the studio creating with the brilliant @sylvie_dorsale dancing with the insanely talented @calderwhite 🤩🤩 It was very sweaty hard work that paid off ❤️

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to our GoFundMe that made these two weeks possible! And to everyone who came to our in-studio showing on Friday - you were an incredibly generous and supportive first audience for this duet.

This piece will premiere November 26, 27, 28 in @ottawadancedirective ‘s Series Dance 10 with @raphcello performing with us live. Thank you to ODD for all your endless support making this project happen!

These beautiful photos are from the super talented @inkxns who I highly recommend to my dance friends to come take photos for your next project! 📸❤️

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended last night’s listening party for Lifeblood ❤️‍🔥 It was such a joy to share this beautiful moment with friends on release day 🥰

It’s rare nowadays to sit down and listen to an entire record without doing anything else at the same time - so nice to do it as a group with full, attentive focus and all phones put away. It felt like a kind of transformative, meditative ritual to commune together around the music. Thank you to @arlingtonfive for graciously hosting and to @_curtisperry for capturing the magical moments ✨ Also, special thanks to @couldvebeenwolfgang and @sarah_hopkin4 for the Ophidian “snake cake!” 🐍🍰

If you missed this, not to worry - you can catch me performing Lifeblood in its entirety on October 24 at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre! Get your tickets at the link in bio! ☝️

Repost @inkxns

It’s been a rough 2 weeks.
The days have been long.
The fight for housing is real.
My sleep and my diet are a mess.
But still, I push through.
.
There have been unforeseen highs and sudden extreme lows, and my body reacts to it all in ways that I have no control over.
But still, I push through.
.
As promised, here is a little music.
This is an unnamed improvisation that I did tonight during a deep low. I just sat at my piano, turned on the camera, and let whatever came out come out.
.
Thank you to those who continue to follow me and support me! I know you didn’t choose to follow me to hear about the housing affordability crisis, my upcoming demoviction, and my fight to try and help anyone I can through this insane and completely avoidable next wave of loss of affordable housing in Toronto.
.
So here’s an intimate, unedited, unstaged moment of me with my piano trying not to crumble under weight of it all.
.
I hope it can bring you a small moment of peace, relief, catharsis, or camaraderie in whatever it is you are facing yourself. 💙💚❤️‍🩹🎹

This Tenants Association has been *THROUGH IT*!

I'm sitting here writing my deputation for our Community Council meeting on Tuesday, June 11th— where my building will be approved to be demolished—thinking about everything we've been through and how fucked up it all is.

I have dedicated most of my free time over the past year and half to fighting demovictions. The very people suffering under the weight of poor policies and legislation are the same people who bear the emotional burden of advocating for it to change.

We need systemic change.

We shouldn't have to come together, volunteering hundreds of personal hours, to fight for our affordable homes in a 'housing affordability crisis'. It is sheer greed.

But I will say this.

Tenants coming together, throwing picnics, hosting gatherings, and getting organized are the only things that have kept me sane.

And you better believe that we will continue to stay organized after this vote, doing *whatever* it takes to fight for tenants' rights.

SHE RELEASED HER FIRST EP AND I LOVE HER SO MUCH

And I’m so thankful I’ve been smol part of this journey. On top of being an amazing human, friend and musician, this fabulous person is a teacher and I won’t diverge too much on how important that role is for today’s world - a world making it more and more difficult to carry out this job in stable conditions. But yeah she's so badass.

Ces Mots is a collection of love letters to people in her life & to places she has been, in a world where listening seems to be harder and harder to do.

I’m so thankful you trusted @dromartistcollective to shoot your videos of “À Deux” and “West”. Here’s a few bts/snapshots from “Ces Mots” in an intimate setup where I learned from the very very best @inkxns

I'm fangirling on West (:

IT HAS BEEN ONE HECK OF A WEEK.

The most exhausting part of this week has been the emotional labour. 🫠

I am grateful to hear that "This wouldn't have been possible without @nodemovictions advocacy!"—but I also can't help but think about how many personal hours everyone has volunteered to make this win possible.

Hours that we could have spent on ourselves or with our loved ones. Almost every single one of us works a full-time job (and in many cases are already overburdened just trying to survive the greed crisis).

If @jillslastword ever finds a way to fund this kind of advocacy work, I will stand 100% behind her.

🚨 Tenants, community organizers, and social justice groups are often forced to organize BECAUSE of policy and legislative failures. The work is then downloaded onto the very people who are impacted by these failures in real time. 🚨

That being said, without @nodemovictions or my temants association, I'd be a shell of my former self. I am so grateful to be in community with these amazing people. 😭

Yesterday, we met with Toronto city planning staff. Thank you Deanna Chorney, Cate Flanagan, and Graham Haines for taking the time to meet with us! ✊️

One thing that we all agree on is that affordable housing is important and that tenants in great need of housing should have access to it.

Even Deanna, Cate, and Graham would tell you that we have differences in opinion, but the sheer gesture of meeting with us to discuss demovictions and being able to share the lived experiences of tenants is an amazing first step. 👏

We look forward to continuing this relationship with city planning staff and advocating for demovicted tenants and the intersectional issues they face!!!

There are over 70 buildings in Toronto set to be demolished and redeveloped (although we know that number is MUCH higher!).

If it doesn't make any damn sense to you why we are allowing dense, affordable, purpose-built rental buildings to be demolished in the middle of a housing crisis, join our newsletter today:

We were proud to join @southjtgrows and @230fightback today in standing up against corporate bullies at Kingsett Capital.

As @globalnewsto explains:

"It was David and Goliath from the start: a multi-billion dollar company versus a fledgling neighbourhood group.

The large corporation wanted to push ahead with a 20-storey high-rise condo project on Toronto’s Bloor Street West.

The community volunteers opposed it, and asked regulators to stop the development from going ahead.

The grassroots group lost an appeal. And now, the lawyer for the developer is demanding $10,000 in fees, as ordered by an Ontario judge."

Tell @maritstiles and @bravodavenport to stand up for tenants against this corporate bullying in their ward+
