Solidarity FM is back and taking over Uus Laine on Sunday 21st of June, this time as a one-day film festival, in support of Refugee Week 2026.

We are excited to announce the 2026 Refugee Week Film Festival – a curated programme of short and feature-length films exploring themes of displacement, migration, belonging, and community, from around the world.

Films:
TSKALTUBO (2023) (tskahll-TOO-boh) dir. Toby Andris
MIGRANTS (2020) dir. Hugo Caby, Antoine Dupriez, Aubin Kubiak, Lucas Lermytte, Zoé Devise
A WORLD NOT OURS (2014) dir. MAHDI FLEIFEL

The doors open at 12:00.
The film program starts at 14:00.

The event is free of charge.

The event is hosted by Vivek Jain. Vivek Jain is an artist, filmmaker and cultural worker, exploring the entangled narratives of the social, political and philosophical. His work is polyphonic in its expression and thematic in its approach. It is not tied to a single medium and is a form of resistance against disciplinary ideas. He is currently engaged in practice-led artistic research, A Seeker’s Guide to Belonging, reconceptualising cinema as an expansive medium, exploring precarity at the intersection of filmmaking and contemporary art practices. One of the key nodes of the research engages with the practice of Collective Cinema.

Forgotten Kins

(Audio-Visual Installation | Hand-Engraved Metal Sheet - 150cm x 100cm, Mono Soundscape)

Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic, on 24th March 2020, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi imposed a nationwide lockdown at 4 hours’ notice, leaving around 100 million migrant workers stranded. As their food and money dwindled, they were forced to return to their hometowns and villages, the only places offering a chance at a dignified life. [1]

With public transport halted, many walked over 1,000 km. Others cycled, hitchhiked, or paid for private trucks. Tragically, many died from hunger, exhaustion, accidents, or criminal negligence by the Railways. Some even took their own lives. [2]

Their deaths, much like their lives, remained largely anonymous. Apart from brief social media outrage, their stories went unnoticed and unmourned.

Forgotten Kins is a memorial artwork in the form of an audio-visual installation seeking to confront the murky moral grounds of an unequal and unjust society while remembering those who are never acknowledged. It also reminds us of the intangible, ungraspable, yet inescapable contemporary reality where dehumanisation is a constant act and not every life is valued the same.

OPEN CALL - ‘sein und zeit’ (‘being and time’)

‘sein und zeit’ is an invitation for artistic producers from all over the world, irrespective of their field of practice, to share their artwork, exploring the quotidian feeling of the presence of absence.

The submission can be
A) Visual - images, photographic experiments, visual arts Or
B) Audial - sound art, field recordings, or sonic experiments.

This project is an attempt to instigate and investigate the idea of belonging, grappling with post-colonial identity, through the intervention of multiple experienced realities from a myriad of cultures and the senses of sight and sound.

It also aims to open a unique transcultural dialogue between Tadao Ando’s prolific architecture of the Fabrica Research Center and abstract identities.

To apply, please email your submission to Vivek.Jain@fabrica.it before the 31st of December, accompanied by a brief statement describing the work. If you deem it relevant you can add a portfolio/CV, but this is not mandatory.
