WHY WE BEGAN AND WHY WE CAN’T STOP

In Our Name began with a simple belief - that fashion could be more than beautiful. It could be a force for dignity, for equity, and for change.

I was born and raised in Nakuru, Kenya, and have seen first hand the brilliance, resilience, and artistry that lives in the hands of African makers - who for too long have been over looked. We set out to change that: to reframe what African-made means, and to celebrate craftsmanship, culture, and creativity through the lens of excellence, not charity.

Every piece we create is a conversation between heritage and modernity - a collaboration between artisans and small makers in Kenya, and a growing global community that believes style and substance belong together. From New York to Hong Kong, from Melbourne to Nairobi, our customers are connected by purpose and by a shared belief that what we wear can reflect what we stand for.

We don’t stop at fashion. Through our MWALI Project - a word meaning girl or woman in Kiswahili - we repurpose fabric offcuts into reusable sanitary pads for girls in underserved communities, fighting period poverty and helping them stay in school. Because the impact of what we make should travel further than the garment itself.

Join us and be part of a movement for circular fashion, ethical production, and a new narrative of African excellence - one that is still being written, together. by @inourname

We refuse to call it waste when it can change a life.

Every fabric off-cut from our production in Kenya is transformed into washable, reusable sanitary pads through our MWALI Circularity Project - giving underserved women and girls the freedom to manage their periods with dignity.

In a country where period poverty forces many girls to miss school, these pads offer more than comfort - they offer confidence, education, and equality.

This is circular fashion with purpose: reducing textile waste, empowering local women, and restoring dignity where it’s long been denied.

Every yarn in the fabric says: dignity is not disposable.

P.S MWALI means “girl” or “woman” in Kiswahili - a name that honours the strength and resilience of those we create for. by @inourname

Some prints are designed to stay forever. Ours aren’t.

Every print begins as original artwork, created exclusively for In Our Name and produced in small runs. Once a design has had its moment, we move on. No reprints. No endless repeats. Just a collection of stories that belong to the women who found them first.

Meet Bernice and Eva.

Bernice cuts. Eva sews.

Between them are years of experience, plenty of laughter and a shared pride in making beautiful clothes from a#inourname #madeinkenya🇰đŸ‡Ș workshop in the small vibrant Kenyan town of Kitengela.

I’ve never really understood why getting dressed has to be so serious.

Some days call for colour. Some days call for florals. Some days call for both.

The right print has a way of changing your mood before you’ve even left the house. A little confidence. A little joy. A reminder that standing out isn’t such a bad thing after all.

Life’s colourful. Your wardrobe should be too.

Some pieces just make you feel good the second you put them on.

The sunshine yellow Suswa playsuit was made for exactly that - joyful days, and warm skin - bright, vibrant and full of colour.

Different prints. Different moods. Same energy.

Shot as self-portraits - a little undone, instinctive and unfiltered

Not here to blend in.

The cracked rose Telekis Top meets the wild contrast of our black and white Namuli leopard skirt - finished with the Rubu bracelet, hand-cast from recycled brass in Kenya.

Some dresses just sit in your wardrobe. The Yegura? It takes over.

Bursting with colour, full of personality, and made in breathable cotton so you can look this good and actually feel comfortable. Yes, really.

Dress it up. Dress it down. Wear it to brunch, the beach, a birthday, or absolutely nowhere in particular - because honestly, it deserves to be seen.

Wear your personality.

Not everything needs to be loud to be noticed.

Some of our favourite colours come from the quieter moments, the earth after the suns heat, softened light at sunrise or dusk, just the kind of tones you will feel more than see.

All our prints start there too. In the ground, in natural patterns, in things that aren’t perfect or repeated exactly the same way twice.

Made in Kenya. Worn your way.
