Citroën wants in on the retro city-car revival with a modern take on one of France’s most recognizable cars: the 2CV.

Citroën’s goal was to create a small EV that’s practical and inexpensive, but something that still feels special to drive. The production car would slot between the tiny Ami and the C3 in Citroën’s lineup.

Despite its modern technology, the 2CV Concept is actually smaller than the original. It measures about 147.6 inches (3.7 meters) long, compared to the roughly 151.2 inches (3.8 meters) of the original 2CV.

The target weight is around 2,200 pounds, too. Keeping the car light means Citroën doesn’t need an enormous battery to provide useful everyday range. That should also help keep the purchase price and running costs down.

The concept takes the same minimalist approach to its construction. Broad, flat body panels, simple air intakes below the windshield, and separate bumpers that can be replaced individually are all designed to make the car easier and cheaper to build and repair.

The interior is bright and open, with wide seats featuring the company’s Advanced Comfort technology. The passenger seat can slide outward, while removable storage baskets and soft strap-style door handles add some useful practicality.

Instead of a conventional dashboard, the driver gets a minimalist control setup centered around a cylindrical structure.

A fabric folding roof is another obvious nod to the original 2CV, giving the cabin a more open and airy feel.

Citroën says the production version will be built in Europe and is targeting a starting price of around €15,000 (or around $16,000 at current conversion rates). That would make it one of the more affordable ways to get into an electric car, assuming Citroën can keep the final price anywhere close to that target.

The Volkswagen ID.4, as we know it, is dead, and Volkswagen is officially announcing its replacement. Meet the new-and-improved ID. Tiguan.

The new ID. Tiguan will succeed the ID.4 and the European-market ID.5, bringing a more traditional SUV design, a redesigned interior, and up to 373 miles (600 kilometers) of WLTP range in Europe.

The electric SUV will launch in Germany and other European markets in early 2027, while the gasoline-, diesel-, and hybrid-powered Tiguan will continue alongside it.

The new model gets a more upright, muscular look with sharper body lines and sculpted sheet metal.

Inside, the ID. Tiguan gets physical controls for important functions, including the air conditioning, while the multifunction steering wheel also uses physical buttons instead of touch-sensitive controls.

The ID. Tiguan will launch with three different powertrain options in Europe, but it’s unclear if all three options will make it to the US:

• 58.0-kWh battery, 188 horsepower, rear-wheel drive
• 77.0-kWh battery, 281 horsepower, rear-wheel drive
• 77.0-kWh battery, 295 horsepower, all-wheel drive

The new ID. Tiguan will come in four trim levels in Europe: Trend, Life, Style, and R-Line. Pre-orders in Germany and several other European countries begin October 13, with prices starting at €42,695, or roughly $48,000 at current exchange rates.

The ID. Tiguan is scheduled to launch in early 2027.

The BMW iX4 is the automaker’s latest Neue Klasse model, joining the i3 and iX3. It doesn’t deviate much from what we have seen, inside or out. The iX4 will enter production early next year in two trims, both offering all-wheel drive.

The entry-level iX4 50 xDrive has two electric motors producing a combined 463 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. The SUV accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.7 seconds. It has a 130-mph top speed.

The iX4 M60 xDrive’s dual-motor setup produces 603 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque, matching the new iX3 M60. The hotter iX4 can reach 60 mph from a standstill in 3.7 seconds and has a higher top speed: 149 mph.

Every iX4 comes standard with the M Sport Package, which includes 20-inch M wheels and optional M Sport brakes with blue calipers.

Inside, the iX4 is nearly indistinguishable from the iX3. The new electric SUV comes with BMW’s Panoramic iDrive system, which includes the 17.9-inch central display.

The iX4 has a 112.2-kilowatt-hour (usable) battery, and the iX4 50 can travel up to 428 miles on a charge, according to the automaker. BMW hasn’t released the range for the iX4 M60, but buyers should expect less.

The BMW iX4 will go on sale in March 2027. The iX4 50 will arrive first, “followed shortly afterward” by the iX4 M60.

The iX4 50 will start at $66,220, plus destination, which BMW has not disclosed. We expect iX4 M60 pricing closer to the SUV’s on-sale date.
