Skerik: Skerik's world is one where dialogue flows freely between wildly disparate strains of musical thought... where no borders exist between jazz & sludge metal, where elements of Congolese soukous dialect might find their way onto the million-selling records of an alternative rock band, where an avant-garde electronic translation of Ornette Coleman's deepest & darkest fantasies (shared with a select few listeners in a small club) easily attains the same level of satisfaction & meaning as an exuberant explosion of jazz/funk catharsis (shared with hordes of sweaty festival crowds all over the world).

Neighbors: a "garage band," whose garage happens to be The Center For Sound, Light, and Color AKA Color Therapy Studios in the historic Alberta Arts District of Portland, OR. Guitarist Mike Gamble, bassist Garrett Baxter, and drummer Machado Mijiga formed the band because, well, they're neighbors.

Neighbors explores indie rock, pop, and folk through the lense of jazz improvisation, playing everything from through-composed compositions, to simple riffs, to co-written songs that span multiple genres and aesthetics.

Neighbors writes and records new music every month—one month, the band performed 32 freshly written songs at a show in the span of two hours.

Neighbors seems to bring neighborly music to neighborhoods around the world, one song at a time.

Played the first @instaneighbors show in what felt like ages at @sakedesupdx last weekend and it's great to be back at it w/ @instagambz and @instagrarrett once again — we played a more chilled out version of many of the songs from our "Greatest Hits" record, and I recorded our set on a @djiglobal Osmo Pocket 3 and @zoomaudio H6 Studio — the full set should be on my YouTube channel (link in bio), but here are a few clips of some of my favorite moments from the show — I was really digging lots of the outros and transitions, so it's mostly the juicy bits between songs.

From L to R:

-Outro of Mike's tune "Fawn."
-Some groovy 7/4, at the tail end of Garrett's jawn "Last Day Of Summer
-Last little bit of my tune "Grasslands"
-Interlude of another Mike Gamble classic: "Sarsaparilla."
-A little four-on-the-floor over the Neighbors original: "Harrison."
-Slumping over the Mike Gamble original, "Spectral"
-Smack dab in the middle of our co-written tune "Gratitude."
-Some fast 5/4 towards the middle of our tune "Leaven Cullen"
-Garrett's beautiful bass melody for our co-written tune, "Take Care"
-SLAMMING bass solo over the Mike Gamble oldie: "Cobalt 12"
-Some slippery 7/4 towards the tail end of our tune "1412."
-A picturesque ending for Mike's tune "People Watching"
