9 months of putting in the actual physical work. Skateboarding isn’t a video game. Building real board control takes time, blood, and taking the falls, bails, and slams. I’m locked in on my own progression, building a solid foundation, and doing it my way. Huge love to the skaters who actually have the maturity to respect the grind and focus on their own board! 46 days since I last went skateboarding.. Reaching my physical limit with pain forced me to heal and regenerate. For 2–3 years, I was running on empty. Unintentionally starving myself while pushing through skating, hiking, and no more gym activity.. Eventually chronic pain, muscle loss, burnout, and substance abuse caught up with me.
By August, the pain became too much. I realized I needed big changes if I ever wanted to skate and live pain free again.
Here’s where I’m at now:
-Tracked my macros and gained 5 lbs in 7 weeks
-Overcame the complications of adulting and finally saw a doctor for the first time in years
-1 month deep into physical therapy with gradual strength/pain wins in my ankles, wrists, lower back, and nervous system
-Learning patience and realizing healing has its own timeline, learned to celebrate the small wins
-40 days clean from marijuana, 4 months clean from alcohol, and 1 year clean from nicotine
-2 months of learning Asian languages on my own
Skateboarding gave me the drive to put down the drugs and alcohol. I’d rather be present for the things I love than numb out.
I’ve also been stepping out of my shell. The past year, I only left the house to skate or hike alone. Now, I’m getting comfortable in more crowded public areas. Sitting in cool cafes, drawing/painting in public, and reconnecting with culture and my own roots. I went to an Autumn Moon Festival and will be attending everything from Filipino palengkes to Oktoberfest and Diwali, experiencing community has been so cathartic.

Huge thank you to all the friends and strangers who reached out to me and encouraged me when I felt hopeless! Every day still has its challenges, but I’m building strong routines that keep me moving forward. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come in this time and excited for this next season🍂

September has become my New Year. Something about the season changing motivates me to get up and be active or create. It’s been a good year getting back to the things I love while searching for healing and peace. I learned a lot about myself along the way. And I still have a long way to go in so many areas of my life. Just trying to take it one moment at a time and face what’s in front of me in the present. I’m thankful for everything and everyone in my life. Looking forward to another year learning and growing. by @instapixelchris

I’ve been practicing on my own for a bit with watercolor and I decided it’s finally time to really learn how to do urban sketching. My goal is to be able to go into the world and draw/paint whatever I see. I am following some really helpful videos by @jillee_arts by @instapixelchris
