Aviva Silverman and Emily Shinada’s “Is terraforming reincarnation?” (2015) resembles an observation tower in miniature. The object’s thin vertical apertures invite you to peer into its hollow chamber. Inside, a mirrored interior multiplies a desertified sun symbol and lone cowboy figure. The effect is both concave and convex; zoetrope and kaleidoscope.

Where an icon like the cowboy travels through images like a Trojan horse—injecting myths of manifest destiny, conquest, and protection into the body that beholds it—the work tests the ways complex narratives proliferate like code, lodging themselves in reality through the very act of looking.

This is the final week to see Wetware at @rainraingallery! Closing this Friday, August 7. Visit us Tue–Fri, 11am–6pm or DM to make an appointment 🌞 taken in New York, New York by @instinctathinc
