Such a thought-provoking exhibition that made me think twice about the systems that organise our lives. What happens when those systems begin to leak? @spine.nyc brought together nine artists across several generations, each with their own relationship to New York, and none of them respond to the question the same way. That’s what I loved about this show. Together, “Wetware” felt almost like a stratigraphy of the city, exposing the layers of experience, moments, and connections that this city holds.

My review is up on @impulse_magazine_ , link in bio! Congrats to @aidanchisholm and @_lb_online on a spectacular inaugural show.

Summer is slipping away… There’s another kind of slipperiness explored by the group exhibition curated by @spine.nyc that we are still thinking about.

Borrowing from the language of systems yet breaking out of its framework, “Wetware” brought together nine artists across generations to examine the unstable boundaries between bodies, technologies, and the material systems meant to contain them. Moving through obsolete devices, reflective surfaces, bodily adaptations, and the shifting fabric of New York itself, the exhibition can be read as a kind of “urban stratigraphy,” writes art critic Christine Chen @_amuseforchris, one in which technologies, materials, and histories continually leak into and reshape one another.

The exhibition was on view @rainraingallery from July 9 to August 7, 2026. Read the full review through our link in bio!

Aviva Silverman and Emily Shinada’s “Is terraforming reincarnation?” (2015) resembles an observation tower in miniature. The object’s thin vertical apertures invite you to peer into its hollow chamber. Inside, a mirrored interior multiplies a desertified sun symbol and lone cowboy figure. The effect is both concave and convex; zoetrope and kaleidoscope.

Where an icon like the cowboy travels through images like a Trojan horse—injecting myths of manifest destiny, conquest, and protection into the body that beholds it—the work tests the ways complex narratives proliferate like code, lodging themselves in reality through the very act of looking.

This is the final week to see Wetware at @rainraingallery! Closing this Friday, August 7. Visit us Tue–Fri, 11am–6pm or DM to make an appointment 🌞
