November is Hip Hop month. And every Sunday I’ll go live to discuss these topics. Email me at professormoncell@gmail.com if you want the readings to go with each live. You don’t need the reading to watch but they will help.

SUBCULTURE, COUNTER-CULTURE, OR PRIMARY CULTURE?

Is Hip Hop a subculture, a counterculture, or an expression of a much deeper cultural heritage?
Join me as we challenge the language used to define Hip Hop and examine the distinction between culture, subculture, and counterculture. We’ll explore how African American cultural traditions, values, aesthetics, and social practices shaped Hip Hop—and question whether labeling Hip Hop a subculture adequately acknowledges the cultural foundations from which it emerged.
Who gets to define culture, and whose cultural perspective determines the definition?

When asked, “when will we able to stop talking about racism” a notable scholar said, “never, because we will always have to educate the next generation.”

I can’t believe we still need to have this conversation but as looks there are those that don’t know I will continue to address it. Today Oct 9th live at 5 by @intangibleroots

We are not "black," "white," "red," or "yellow." We all have roots. 🌎

Where are yours? Share your ancestry in the comments, and let's celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures, histories, and traditions that make us who we are.
