I’ve repeatedly tried to use JavaScript V3 parameter syntax with V2 function calls. Doh! Merging two tables into one has had a lengthy impact but it’s coming along. Finishing up getting the newly formatted data back to the screen and very glad to know my data is more efficiently available now. So close to a functional journal app.

Build bundle. Restart server. The evolution to a managed cloud database is something I’m very thankful for. The frontend is chalk full of fun stuff to keep busy but access to simple and available data stores is great, especially when building a journal 📚. DynamoDB made it easy to replace a mock data store, like an array, quickly🗽 Like always, so many more things to address 💻

This extensive stormy weather is most certainly helping the cause to build out the stack and persist longer than the bugs do. Set up PassportJS with Express but my DB is just an array in server.js, so back to the DynamoDB SDK to read/write users.

If you’ve heard the term ‘unwrapping’ of values and understand that each letter of the alphabet is mapped to a number key, then you’ll love the map function. This reminds me of the idea of rotating an array to the right or to the left. However here, mapped items remain in place but their char value is incremented by one and then converted back to a character. — I strongly recommend combing through MPJ’s (Fun Fun Function on YouTube) videos for some not-so-surface level information on higher order functions.

I frequently get stuck in the process and stall for months. To change this, first I started a project that’s very usefull to me, second I started from the bottom of the stack, the database. I was motivated to develop the basics to move towards the server and then front end. More importantly approaching the process backwards from how I was taught helped me see the process through the stack better. Even approaching MVC -> MCV helped speed the development process.

Checking out the run time of binary search and had to jack up the number of values to search but still haven’t broken 100 ms. O(logN) lookin pretty efficient, my numbers (provided by console.time()) from the iterative version weren’t that much slower.

Lots of practice with in place array manipulation via sorting methods led me to I kind of wanted to play around with it and not be so serious. So I wrote a function that rotates arrays but change the boundaries, then thought it might be cool to split the array in half and have each half rotate the opposite way, with an option to change whether it rotates toward center or toward first and last values.

I emailed an attempt at a linked list to myself months ago. Things I had learned at boot camp were suddenly clear as I wrote it. Iterating through each node was rather vivid for once and even the more difficult methods took no longer than a few minutes and some googling to solve. On to doubly linked list at some point and looking forward to clarity in other scopes as well.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and happy coding 🎄❄️

NHL API has been great to light the fire under async await. Matching dot and bracket notation while reading a prettified response from postman is actually a really daunting task, but thankfully the more data consumed the more I want to go through the paces. Async calls are kinda similar to UI in that the response is quite satisfying. Just as the 2021-2022 NHL season is getting underway looking forward to a solid stats dashboard. 🏒🥅 #nhl #javascript #api #asyncawait #postman taken in California by @intermittentdev

Best results come when you mix stuff up. If that means watching your favorite super car channel while getting in some react native practice (super straight forward and fun so far), then the proper environment is set. Yea, getting your react or node environment set up is good (I’ve neglected these skills for far too long), and going up to parents’ scope and getting your physical one set is also a huge step in the right direction. Finally found a use for connecting my monitor 🥂🎉🏖

Hooks have been fun, web based dev environments are super fun, and reading detailed react based articles on css-tricks helps when finding hidden gems. One comment section considered the solution in react to be ‘overkill’ - I think there’s a difference between overkill and well architected solutions. Make no mistake, I have no idea what architected means but it seems sometimes many lines of code written with OO standards looks like a bit much but the more you look, the more the structure reveals itself to be very very helpful. Anyways - curious to see how many different tidbits I can extract here, definitely seems like sophisticated animations require many layers and much logic.

TIL: A benefit of using an array of components to map over is that you can use the index provided to ensure smooth rendering, based on the last index rendered.

I’m great with theory and terrible at execution. Understand how to, but struggle with doing. Done a lot of deliberate usage of mechanics and processes but yet to implement them meaningfully. Apprehensive to convert my class based react project to function components and hooks. We’ll see if my understanding on it translates🤞🏼C’est la voyage. taken in California by @intermittentdev
