Space for New History: Stony Island Arts Bank (2025)

By Seb Taylor

Link to full article in Bio.

The Stony Island Arts Bank (SIAB)
in Southside Chicago was designed and
founded as a piece of art itself, with the
organizational structure being a museum
of Black cultural production. This article
examines how the institution constructs
an epistemology of Blackness through its
archival practices, community programming,
and spatial claims on the South Side.
Founded by artist Theaster Gates through
the @REBUILD_FOUNDATION, the SIAB positions
institutional design as an art medium,
operating in productive tension with
orthodox museum methods.
The permanent collections—including
the Johnson Publishing Company archives
and Frankie Knuckles vinyl collection—
function as epistemological records of
Black self-documentation unmediated
by external audiences. Through analysis
of these collections and the institution’s
community engagement, this article argues
that the SIAB holds amorphous space for an
alternative theory of history to arise within
the conditions of Black expressivity. The
critical tensions in place are preservation
vs production, sanctuary vs intervention,
contemporary vs historic, local vs diasporic.
These tensions create space for the
creation of a new theory of history around
Blackness—a history where existence is
claimed and Blackness is not an addition or
a margin but an origin of the contemporary
conditions of art. The existence of the SIAB
poses a fundamental question: what happens
when Black cultural production is allowed to
exist undeniably?

An Interview with an Instagram Archivist: @404MPH Interviews @ONLYSTARLEFT ®✨ (2025)

Link in bio.

An Interview with an Instagram Archivist: @404MPH Interviews @ONLYSTARLEFT is a dialogue conducted entirely through iMessage, presented as both a publication and a designed artifact. Within this text exchange, the conversation navigates themes of digital preservation, authorship, and self-curation—examining how social media aesthetics transform personal experience into collective memory. @ONLYSTARLEFT reflects on the act of archiving not as static documentation but as a living, participatory practice shaped by the speed and impermanence of online culture. Formally, the project recognizes the iPhone as a cultural mediator—its interface shaping not only how we communicate, but how we perceive and construct value within digital life. The design reproduces the Instagram environment through typographic rhythm, spatial composition, and visual pacing, translating the aesthetics of the feed into the language of the printed page. At its core, the interview functions as a methodological innovation: it uses conversation itself as a medium of research and design inquiry. By positioning dialogue as a primary creative act, 404MPH reveals how Instagram-based archival practice redefines authorship, memory, and aesthetic circulation in networked culture. The result is both a critical document and a visual experiment in how online communities curate, preserve, and narrate contemporary culture in real time.

Ijal Morgan: Rap for Everyday People (2025)

link in bio for the full article.

published by @humboldtdigital

In this interview, hip hop artist Ijal Morgan presents himself foremost as an everyday person whose creative identity is grounded in authenticity rather than spectacle. He emphasizes the importance of “not trying too hard,” framing artistry as an organic extension of lived experience, family influence, and community recognition. Through sample-based production, self-directed visuals, and lyrics rooted in daily life, Morgan underscores the value of sincerity over image. His vision of sustaining his creativity—linking music with ventures like clothing or skate culture—reflects a model of independent artistry defined by balance, humility, and cultural integrity.

This one is surreal. Goes to show how humility and staying down to earth are the realest values.

The Evolution of Schooling: From Industrial Obedience to Techno-Autonomy (2025)

Written by
@SEBASTIANLEWISTAYLOR & @RJROBERTS

Academic Publisher @humboldtdigital

This paper examines the enduring architecture of the American education system as a mechanism designed for compliance, not creativity. Rooted in 19th-century industrial logic, the structure of schooling, its physical design, time constraints, and assessment methods, has remained largely static despite seismic cultural and technological shifts. Through historical analysis and contemporary critique, this work interrogates the persistence of standardized methods, institutional prestige, and top-down instruction as barriers to meaningful learning and value creation.

Drawing from interdisciplinary research and live case studies, including Alpha School’s AI-powered, mastery-based model, the paper advances the concept of techno-education: a student-centered paradigm informed by feedback loops, digital fluency, and real-world autonomy. It proposes feedback economics as a framework to replace credentialism with continuous, adaptive learning. The paper argues that the future of education must be designed from first principles to meet the demands of a networked world, centering identity, agency, and collaboration. To delay this shift is to entrench inequity, misalign incentives, and forfeit the potential of the next generation.

How to Industry Plant Yourself (2025)

c/o @seekeveryone

Published in @INTERNET__JOURNAL

Link for article download in bio.

Ted Childish is an artist, creative mind, and cultural organizer working at the intersection of digital culture and contemporary creative economies. His practice spans from conceptual ideation to visual production and designed objects, all approached with a distinct material sensibility. How to Industry Plant Yourself is an analysis of the contemporary creative landscape, delivered in the format of a ‘how-to’ presentation — a familiar trope of the social media era. This work employs graphic design strategies akin to a pitch deck, symbolizing the increasingly transactional and performative environments in which creatives navigate their careers today.

Excited to publish this piece of contemporary creative history.
