Open Source Open Mic! 6-9pm, 10/22, @interzonecorvallis !! Giving the people what they want 🎤 Sign up starts at 5:30, freestyle cypher starts at 8 or whenever we want it to! Bring your beats, your tracks, your bars, your melodies, etc

We will be focusing on hip-hop but nobody turned away for lack of bars. Play us a track you’re working on, perform a little mini-set, beatbox for the people, sing a song, recite a poem etc. this is a free and open celebration of audio expression. Invite your friends :)

We will close the night out with a freestyle cypher where we will share the mic, rip bars over sick beats, and gas each other up regardless of acumen 🌌 I’m hoping we can get a little beatbox jam sesh going for a bit.

After years of explaining the mechanics of a freestyle cypher to disappointed would-be performers, I’m hoping we can get a good and fun chunk of you out to rock the mic, share your sounds, etc.

My studio is an absolute mess right now, and the chaos is spilling over into my dining room. Yet, it feels incredibly good to have hands-on, analog work to comfort and ground me.
Lately, I have been feeling like the world is swirling with an ever-growing presence of AI doing our thinking and creating, while complicated passwords and two step authentication act as digital gatekeepers, stripping away trust and ease. I seem to be craving a simpler way. Working with my hands on these projects feels like a tiny act of resistance against a world that is constantly distracted—moving at a speed that completely misses real-life details- the beautiful textures.

I am currently finishing up a series of small paintings that remind me of how vital texture is to my practice: the rough paper, the seepage of the paint, and the slight, unsteady movement of my hand when drawing a line. This set of 14 pieces—nine of which will be on view at Interzone exactly one week from today—reminds me that textures help us stay in touch with the physicality of the world and, ultimately, our human selves.

Come have a cappuccino and see a corner of my world.

This is Willow Fox who painted the three doors at Interzone nearly 28 years ago. She is touching them up for the second time. One door is Aztec, one is Arabic, and one is Celtic. I think when most people think of Interzone, these doors come to mind.
