nat's 2026 malaysian bookstore guide

remember how i was going to every bookstore i knew in a month last year? yeah, me too. well, i've decided to update my old list because i discovered a few new bookstores, and because some have permanently closed down as of last year.

most of these bookstores are directly connected to an lrt/mrt station, while a handful of them will need an extra bus ride to get there. that being said, please take care of yourself and only bookstore hop when the haze clears out.

in the meantime, swipe through my updated list of bookstores in kl, pj, and selangor <3

i'm in a slump rn so i wrote a blog on how to get out of a slump in hopes i'll actually get out of one (and maybe help someone who's also in a slump) 😔

[text from slides below]

01: take a break from reading
- when you don't feel like reading, indulge in your other hobbies in the meantime (e.g. writing, listening to music, watching your shows etc.)

02: just keep reading
— sometimes it's the book, not me, so i'll push through/dnf it lol

03: try a different genre
— i was in a fantasy slump for a while, and i found myself reading more romance and historical fiction

04: try a fast-paced book
— *especially* if they have short chapters!

05: try a short book
— novellas, anthologies, zines, poetry books or anything between 100-300 pages

06: reread books you enjoyed
— because some books deserve to be reread no matter how many times you've read it

lmk how you get out of a reading slump ;)

— the apothecary diaries light novels review + rankings

i know i've been yapping about the anime for a while now, but i finished the apothecary diaries light novels recently (all 16 of them) and i wanted to make a little post about it 🐸🍄‍🟫🍃 i think it's a great series with a lot to talk about, especially its interesting characters, memorable scenes, and the various cases maomao solves throughout the volumes.

if you're a fan of the anime, i highly recommend picking up the light novels too :) i might also read the manga someday because i'm planning to start a couple of titles first 💀 (still deciding though)

swipe for the review, rankings, and a pic of my jinmao-bubus ⭐️

my first aesop women's library 💫📚

from 19-20 september 2026, @aesop is giving out free books from a selection of 25 titles (while stocks last) in english, mandarin and malay, all by female authors from a range of different genres. this year's theme is "body of work: from pulse to page", which examines the female form and how it can form a language of its own.

for my choice of book, i chose "prodigal tiger" by samantha chong @samjamtimtam, an incredible and magical YA fantasy set in penang, malaysia. 🐯🇲🇾

comment which book you got down below!
