POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In the final stretch of our book club selections for 2026 — here’s what the eclectics will be reading for October, November, and December 💚 Swipe through for more details on how to join us either virtually or in-person if you’re in Louisville, KY.

OCTOBER — ‘The True Confessions of First Lady Freeman’ by Deesha Philyaw
Lucky me, I was an early reader of this one over the summer and I instantly wanted to talk about it with the book club - so now I’m making my dreams come true! This debut is equal parts hilarious and constructive in the way we view megachurches, sexual wellness, and one woman’s desire to create space for herself in a patriarchal world.

NOVEMBER — ‘The Book of Chuck’ by LaToya Watkins
As a reader who has enjoyed Watkins previous work, I’m excited to read her newest multigenerational novel with everyone. The way Watkins handles delicate familial wounds and topics is something I’m quite fond of, so I’m eager to see how she incorporates the “burden” of clairvoyant powers that is passed down in this Texas family.

DECEMBER — ‘Ghalen: A Romance in Black’ by Walter Mosley
When we think of love, it is easy to jump to the thought of romantic pursuits, but I’ve noticed a shift in society that is beginning to revere love in all its forms. Ghalen seems to explore all that love is, so I’m super excited to read what Mosley has written of love, even down to its most painful aspects, with a Black man at its center.

Get your book club picks wherever books are sold, but if you would like to support my local indie bookstore @foxingbookstore and receive 20% off your books, use the code ECLTX online or simply mention you’re reading with the book club when shopping in store. (I do not make any profit from your purchases through Foxing Books, all profits support the store.)

If you have any other questions about book club, drop them below or DM me at any time! 💚 #introtoeclecticism #blackbookstagram #books #bookclub taken in Louisville, Kentucky by @introtoeclecticism

I’ve been sitting on these photos for a while lol and I’m not sure when my bookstaversary technically is - so here I am with a stack of books that I love and probably never shout about enough.

Intro to Eclecticism is evolving daily. What started as a finsta in 2019 to document moments, share my poetry or obscurely vain thoughts, and book reviews occasionally has turned into a solid community. So I just want to say THANK YOU - each and every one of you 💚🥲

📸 Also, thank you to @t_hump_q for these amazing photos and allowing Intro to Eclecticism to be a part of his Black History Month initiative to highlight some of the greatness Louisville’s Black community has to offer!

I hosted a breakout session at UC Berkeley’s Othering & Belonging Conference. Here is a list of books I brought along to the ✨Literary Lounge✨ that have themes around belonging, othering, and/or one’s identity in their society across an array of genres.

Thank you @otheringandbelonging & @thesisthatjournals for having me! #introtoeclecticism #obi

Thank you to @otheringandbelonging for having me, and Louisville’s very own @thesisthatjournals for bringing me on as one of the local change makers. I know we love pumpkin picking right now, but you must include apple picking this season at Huber’s Orchard & Winery in Indiana. (bookish tote bag is from @outofprint 💚)

a supernatural, multi-pov read for anyone who is looking for one more story to squeeze into their thriller, mystery, and horror reading list this season.

The Broken Hearts Agency by Clarence Haynes is a hybrid of genres & elements, most may even say an urban fantasy, but it’s wonderfully written with a dynamic cast of characters that it’s kind of impossible to box it in.

october book club information ✨ we’re reading THE TRUE CONFESSIONS OF FIRST LADY FREEMAN by the incredibly talented @deeshaphilyaw 💚

This resounding debut novel introduces readers to one charming, hilarious, and Proverbs 31 woman by the name of Scharisse Freeman, who seems to be in a 1 vs EVERYBODY in the megachurch community. Determined, relentless, and fueled by a desire to fit in, Lady Freeman’s story shows us how confronting & choosing the truth will always be the key to true belonging.
