Here’s the full painting I did for @invocationritualofficial ‘s debut full length “Altered Reality.” Originally designed to be a gatefold cover, the front and back of the album form one continuous, mutated post apocalyptic landscape. I really wanted to do an exaggerated perspective drawing for the cityscape, similar to 18th century Italian architectural paintings, filled with a Where’s Waldo level of points of interest, and finally, I really wanted to render this on watercolor to really push the sense of depth with the murky color palette. The inclusion of the central figure in the “mental health crisis pose” is definitely a nod to Napalm Death’s “From Enslavement to Obliteration” and Rancid’s “…and Out Come the Wolves” (even though they’re sonically very different albums). This was painted in watercolor with a bit of gouache and a hint of sepia liner pens over a period of six frantic weeks on 20x24” Arches cold press paper. Huge thank you to Paul and everyone in Invocation Ritual for trusting me with this! taken in Memoir Tattoo by @invocationritualofficial

Invocation Ritual - Altered Reality Old school Death Metal from Seattle, Washington, US Invocation Ritual’s debut album, "Altered Reality", features ten old school death metal tracks marked by psychological turmoil that explore a world in which addiction, war, mental illness, and personal suffering distort perception and undermine self-confidence. Through a distorted veil, "Altered Reality" projects a warped view of existence, in which perception begins to crumble and certainty gradually fades. Echoing the haunting cover artwork, "Altered Reality" captures the descent into uncertainty, where suffering and self-destruction reshape the world around us. 1. Threat by Example 03:13 2. ☢️☢️☢️☢️☢️☢️ Release Day ☢️☢️☢️☢️☢️☢️ Death Metal from Seattle, Washington 🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Band: Invocation Ritual Title: Altered Reality Studio Album: #1 Releases today 8/14/2026 on Iron Fortress Records Listen below 👇👇👇👇👇👇 YouTube stream by: Iron Fortress Records https://youtu.be/ort3VWhnzqY?is=cKx9CfG49RtF066G Order and listen below 👇👇👇👇👇👇 https://ironfortressrecords.bandcamp.com/album/altered-reality Invocation Ritual’s debut album ‘Altered Reality’ presents ten tracks of death metal shaped by psychological turmoil, exploring a world where addiction, war, mental illness, and personal suffering distort perception and erode the sense of self. Through a distorted veil, ‘Altered Reality’ projects a warped vision of existence, where perception begins to fracture and certainty gradually slips away. Echoing the haunting cover art, ‘Altered Reality’ captures a descent into uncertainty, where suffering and self-destruction reshape the world around us. Featuring current and former members of Oxygen Destroyer, Kontusion, and Reburied, Invocation Ritual bring together experience from across the extreme metal underground. Their take on death metal combines crushing intensity with a sense of unease and instability, mirroring the unsettling vision at the heart of ‘Altered Reality’. ‘Altered Reality’ was engineered and recorded by Paul Wright (bass), Victor Teller (vocals), and Billy Anderson (guitar and drums), with mixing by Anderson and mastering by Greg “Earhammer” Wilkinson. The cover art was created by Dan Bones and Anne Margrete Sjøflot, with logo design by Christophe Szpajdel and photography by Taylor Franklin. CDs are in hand and shipping now and vinyl is only a few short weeks away. You can order at www.ironfortressrecords.com. taken in Seattle, Washington by @invocationritualofficial
