EXTENDED FOR THE SUMMER ☀️

We are thrilled to announce that 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗞𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘆’𝘀 𝟯𝟳 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘀 / 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 is extending its run through the summer.

A big thank you to everyone who has visited us so far, it has been wonderful to share this new body of work with both long time gallery friends who have been following Jonathan’s practice over the past decade and those encountering it for the first time. As Ben Street suggests in his accompanying text, the experience is special and full of contrasts; the work feels unexpected yet familiar, haunting yet comforting, immaculate but also flawed: hard-edged painting revealing its vulnerable core. If you haven’t seen it yet, you are in for a treat.

The show’s final closing date and summer opening times will be announced soon but until then, visit us this week:

📍IONE & MANN
1st Floor, 6 Conduit Street, W1

🕜 Wednesday - Friday 11-6, Saturday 12-4

Or visit our website to find out more about the exhibition and read the accompanying text by the brilliant art historian and writer Dr Ben Street.

Athens in London for a minute ~
✨
A Day in the Life of Jo: Chapter Phaedra, a film by the brilliant Jaqueline Lentzou, who won the Orizzonti Award for Best Director at the 83rd Venice Film Festival, premiered at the BFI London Film Festival.
Cast, crew and friends visited the gallery after the screening and discovered works which somehow felt resonant and connected to the film - no spoilers, go see it and you will understand why!
✨
A different kind of premiere, the first time that works from the Irene Y. Panagopoulos Collection travel abroad. “Revisiting: Fernweh, or Nostalgia for Unknown Lands” curated by Katerina Hadji, opened at the Hellenic Centre earlier this month. The exhibition explores Greece as a symbolic construct of both past and present, escaping fixed notions of place.
✨
Athens-born artist Kyvèli Zoi presented her debut UK solo exhibition at Soup Gallery. “Communication Breakdown”, curated by Megan Macnaughton, casts communication difficulties as the emotional hinterland between intimacy and isolation.
✨
In our viewing room ~ Coinciding with the major contemporary art exhibition DEI Meets Art Vol.2 in Athens, sculptures from Irini Bachlitzanaki’s series of works inspired by components used in power distribution networks are on view at the gallery.

DEI Meets Art Vol. 2 💡⚡️

We are excited to share that Irini Bachlitzanaki is taking part in the second edition of this major contemporary art exhibition organised by the Public Power Corporation of Greece (abbreviated as DEI / ΔΕΗ).

The exhibition, curated by Christoforos Marinos, opens today, Friday 23 October (17:00–21:00), at the historic premises of the Neo Faliro Thermal Power Station (Solomou 1 & Dimitriou Falireos, Piraeus).

Irini Bachlitzanaki presents a sculpture that is part of a series of works inspired by components used in power distribution networks which often go unnoticed in the landscape.

Athens interlude ~ reflections on old and new and how it’s all connected ♾️

1-4: Benaki Museum ~ Contemporary artist’s Aleksandra Waliszewska ‘s paintings placed in charged iconographic tension with objects spanning Neolithic Greece, Classical Antiquity, the Byzantine world, and the modern Greek era. Presented in collaboration with DESTE Foundation, curated by Alison Gingeras.

5-6: Museum of Cycladic Art ~ reclining female figurine from the early Bronze Age and Jeff Koons’s Balloon Venus Lespugue (Orange).

7: Drawing of two women dancing by Georgios Sikeliotis (1917-1984), Private Collection.

8: View of the Acropolis in the morning.

9-13: Heidi Bucher Centennial events ~ a collaboration between the American College of Greece and Parasol Unit Foundation for Contemporary Art curated by Dr Ziba Ardalan. Two exhibitions, Oraio Spiti, hosted at the ACG Demos Center in Plaka offering an intimate view into works inspired by Bucher’s time Mykonos in the 60s, and an encounter with four Greek contemporary women artists, Maro Fasouli, Ismini Samanidou, Kleopatra Tsali and Paky Vlassopoulpou, presented at the ACG Art Gallery, explore the lasting influence of Bucher’s work through the themes of transience and metamorphosis.
Wonderful to see Bucher’s iconic sculptural work Bodyshells activated through performances at the inaugural events.

14: View of the facade of the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (Herodeion) from the Dionysiou Areopagitou promenade.

15-16: Comedian Katerina Vrana literally on the rocks at Theatro Vrahon under the full moon.

17: View of the Acropolis at dusk.

Happy Birthday Jonathan 💫💜🎂

Wishing Jonathan Kelly a very happy birthday as we continue to enjoy the world he created with his exhibition ‘37 degrees / when the gods have left’.

If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t miss it! All throughout August we are open on Thursdays from 12-6 pm and by appointment.

Visit us to see what @jonathankelly_ has been up to and join us in wishing him a very happy birthday and a magical, creative year ahead ✨🥂🥳
