🏛 Sailing in Latin (somewhere in the Aegean sea): Horace invokes Venus, the Dioscuri (the stars protecting sailors) and Aeolus to ensure Virgil a safe passage to Greece
🏛 "Sic te diva potens Cypri, sic fratres Helenae, lucida sidera, ventorumque regat pater obstrictis aliis praeter Iapyga, navis, quae tibi creditum  debes Vergilium; finibus Atticis reddas incolumem precor et serves animae dimidium meae." (Horatius, Carmina III.1)
🇬🇧 "May the powerful goddess of Cyprus, may Helen’s brothers, those shining stars, and the father of the winds guide you, O ship, holding back all other winds except the Iapyx; you, to whom Virgil has been entrusted, bring him safe and sound to the shores of Attica, I pray, and preserve for me the half of my soul." (Horace, Odes; I.3)
(Horacio, Odas, I.3)

🏛 Sunflowers in the fields of Soria (Spain). In Ovid's Fasti, the author evokes the celebration of the Carmentalia and quotes Carmentis, metaphorically announcing the arrival of spring, to encourage her son Evander, who will finally reach Hesperian lands.
🏛 "nec fera tempestas toto tamen horret in anno: et tibi, crede mihi, tempora veris erunt." (P. Ovidius Nasus, Fasti, I, 495)
🇬🇧 "The storm does not rage throughout the whole year, and, believe me, springtime will come to you too." (Ovid, Fasti, I, 495)
(Ovidio, Fastos, I, 365)

🍺 Beer in Latin: the picture shows sections of the beer-themed flower carpet installed by the Belgian Beer World Experience inside the Brussels Stock Exchange. St Isidore of Sevilla, author of an outstanding 7th century’s Latin  ‘encyclopaedia’ (Etymologiae), mentions two kinds of beer:
(Etymologiae, XX, 3, 17-18)
🇬🇧 "Cervisia is so called from Ceres, that is, from grain; for it is a drink made in various ways from the seeds of grain. Caelia is called from calefacere (“to heat”); for it is a drink made by a process from the juice of wheat. … This drink is made in those regions of Spain where the land is not productive of wine." (Etymologies, XX, 3, 17-18)

Beer in Latin 🏛: In 2026 (13/16 August) a beer-themed flower carpet was installed inside the Brussels Stock Exchange by the Belgian Beer World Experience. Among the various references to beer in classical Latin literature, Pliny the Elder stands out:
🏛 "Ex iisdem fiunt et potus, zythum in Aegypto, caelia et cerea in Hispania, cervesia et plura genera in Galia aliisque provinciis, quorum omnium spuma cutem feminarum in facie nutrit. "(Gaius Plinius Secundus, Naturalis Historia, XXII, 164)
🇬🇧 "From cereals are made drinks, zythum in Egypt, ‘celia’ and ‘cerea’ in Spain, beer and many other kinds in Gaul and other provinces, the foam of all of which nourishes the skin of women's faces." (Pliny the Elder ,
