As a final year medical student, I’ve spent time in many different departments and there are hundreds of cases I still think about. Sometimes it’s the severity of the presentation and sometimes it’s the patient’s story that stays with me. These are just a few that never get easier to see. #medstudent #premed #medschool #clinicals by @iridessewellness

Eating with your cycle is one of the simplest ways to support your hormones, energy and mood. Iron replacement through food is particularly important for women with heavy periods; however, clinical iron deficiency should be assessed by a GP and may require supplementation beyond dietary changes.

Let’s take a step back from “girl dinner” and talk about how to fuel a grown adult body. Most mainstream advice comes from research done on men…calorie recommendations, meal timing advice. A lot of woman attribute fluctuations to their diet to emotional weakness and lack of discipline and fail to consider how it is often hormonally driven. Cutting calories too aggressively can disrupt your cycle and stimulate muscle break down. Focusing on calorie intake without considering the nutritional value of those calories is another pitfall that can make nourishing your body feel like an uphill battle. Eating like a woman means eating enough and prioritising foods with high nutritional value to keep your body looking and feeling its best🩷

Melanin is not enough to stop you from sun damage (speaking from personal experience). A lot of us seemed to have inherited the belief that sun protection is optional. We’ve pick up these 10 step skin routines and somewhere along the way we forget the basics and protecting what we already have. Girl this is your sign to become an avid SPF user. Stay tuned for more info and tips🎀💓

Went down a gut health rabbit hole, so wanted to share what I’ve found. The research is a lot more nuanced than the industry would have you believe. A lot of what’s being sold doesn’t accurately reflect what the science says. Part 2 coming 🦠

LED masks are trending…
but photobiomodulation is here to stay✨
PBM works by stimulating mitochondrial pathways (cytochrome c oxidase), increasing ATP production and influencing collagen signalling.
While reading the literature I noticed that most clinical data is based on lighter skin types.
Melanin alters light absorption and penetration, meaning darker skin may experience:
* reduced transmission
* increased superficial heating
* higher risk of photosensitivity, especially with dual-wavelength devices
So if you have darker skin, it’s worth knowing that wavelength, dose and device quality matter even more.

Save this if you’ve ever considered red light therapy 🔴
