¡Un concierto de ensueño! ✨

I am working on two scores for Sinfonia Toronto's November 5 'Suite Life' concert that we'll be performing with violinist Irmina Trynkos.

Mieczysław Weinberg's 1948 Concertino was written to survive Soviet ideology — 1948 was the year of the anti-formalism campaign, only melodic, accessible music was allowed. It's a neo-classical work with Romantic lyricism, lighter and more restrained than his later works.

Claudia Montero's 2012 Concerto was written to assert identity — a compact yet emotionally vivid work that blends classical concerto form with folkloric rhythms and Argentinian tango idioms. Weinberg had to hide modernism, Montero celebrates regional voice.

Much of Weinberg's music was neglected for decades. Only after the 2010 production of his opera The Passenger did recordings of his works appear, and violinists increasingly perform his beautiful Concertino.

Montero's work had a similar late arrival. Composed in 2012, it gained international fame in 2014 when it won the Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. That win helped establish Montero as one of the most prominent contemporary Latin-American composers. She went on to win four Latin Grammys total. by @irminatrynkos

What a fabulous 1st rehearsal with Bruch! Absolutely loved playing with Chris @chopchopkins conducting! So beautifully and emotionally sensitive to every change of colour and musical direction on my violin, pure bliss for my soul 🤩✨🎶 and the orchestra @orchofthecity plays their heart out! I can’t wait to play Bruch with all of you this Friday! It’s going to be a real joy 🤩🩷🎶✨
