Thank you @wollconmusic for having us along for your winter camp program. We had a wonderful day workshop chamber music skills with the students which culminated in a concert led by the students. Supported by Australian Art Council grants, we look forward for returning over the next 18 months to provide concerts and music education to regional NSW.

We were also fortunate to give a concert afterwards which features some of our favourite Reed quintet works as well as the world premiere of Richard Percival’ ‘Art Deco Suite’.

What a wonderful day of musical discovery at our Winter Camp extension day with Ironbach Ensemble.

Today, students have been immersed in chamber music techniques, developing valuable skills in ensemble playing. They have gained new insights into performing in a smaller group setting and learning how to play independently without a conductor.

The repertoire has certainly been a challenge, but the students have embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm and we are excited to showcase their learning at this afternoon’s concert!

We are also looking forward to the 5pm Ironbach Ensemble concert - a wonderful opportunity to experience an inspiring ensemble performance. 🎵

A big thank you to everyone involved in making this day such a success! taken in Wollongong Conservatorium of Music by @ironbarkensemble

Thank you to everyone who braved the weather today to come hear our Timeless Voices concert. Was a wonderful afternoon of music making. We also welcomed back our clarinettist Rowena. We loved having Lorenzo playing with us during her break and I’m sure he’ll join us again in the future.

Did you know? Debussy's 'Children's Corner' (1906-1908) was dedicated to his daughter Claude-Emma (whom Debussy affectionally nick-named "Chouchou"). The work is a nostalgic suite designed for adults, depicting the wonder seen through a child's eyes when viewing the world....and their toys.

Come and join us on March the 8th at Hunter Baillie Memorial Church in Annandale to hear 'Children's Corner' and many other classics.

Did you know?

Hebrides Overture - Felix Mendelssohn

Felix Mendelssohn travelled to Scotland in 1829 where he saw the Hebrides Islands off the west Coast and visited the island of Staffa - known for its atmospheric cave. With its echoing acoustics, which emphasised the sound of rumbling waves, Fingal's Cave made a deep impression on Mendelssohn, who later sent his sister Fanny a postcard, with the work's opening theme, that read: 'In order to make you understand how extraordinarily the Hebrides affected me, I send you the following, which came into my head there.' The Hebrides Overture is one of the most recognised works of classical music and brilliantly translates to the reed quintet medium. Join the Ironbark Ensemble on March 8th to hear this and many other beautiful works reimagined for this chamber music setting.

March 8th at 2pm.
Hunter Baille Church, Annandale.
