Throwback to IronDog 2025.

It’s crazy to think Kato was once this small and now at nearly 3.5 years old he’s already starting to go grey🥹

No matter what we do or what gets thrown at him, he’s a dog that always gives it his all🖤 by @irondogk9

Closing out @atk9usa and also my 5 week trip in the US 🇺🇸

It has been a blast to say the least!

Getting to be a student again and soaking up as much knowledge as possible at @tarheelk9 and gaining a certification as an Police K9 Instructor. Then onto ATK9 to help out Paul Ludwig from @irondogk9 to decoy for the epic teams that attend his class 💪

The thing I love most about my trips to the US and doing things like this is the experience, the people and the dogs 🐕 I always come back feeling super inspired and appreciative of the genuinely good people I've met and the dedicated and passionate teams I get to be around!

Thank you everyone! I have really valued my time here and I hope y'all kick ass out there on the streets doing what you do best! Till next time...

West Coast Canine & Paul Ludwig of IrondogK9 hosted a fantastic seminar over the weekend & I was lucky enough to get a working spot.
Getting to push my young dogs with some well thought out scenarios was more than I could have asked for!

K9SA ROCKY & ECHO totally agree

This past weekend @westcoastcanineau and @west_coast_psa had the pleasure of hosting Paul Ludwig and his lovely wife Carrie for the @irondogk9 Perth workshop!

All teams had an absolute epic time and so much knowledge was shared by Paul which assisted to refine teams and build confidence and progression in the dogs and handlers 🐕

Paul has so much experience and so many valuable lessons, which he happily shares with zero ego. You honestly wouldn't meet a nicer person!

This weekend also wouldn't have been the success it was without our decoys 🥷 thank you for putting your bodies on the line and for travelling to us to help!

Thank you to Wade from @shotsfiredphotographyau for capturing amazing photos and Faridah from @kshep_productions for capturing all of the footage over the two days (sorry about the sore feet!)! Appreciate the memories you guys capture 🫶

Should we do it all again next year!? 🤔 what do you reckon!? taken in Perth, Western Australia by @irondogk9

Some people you meet in life have a far greater impact on your journey than they could ever know. Paul Ludwig is one of those people for us.

We first met Paul in 2018 in Australia, as spectators at his @irondogk9 Sydney seminar. He was incredibly generous and personally invited us to attend an operational IDK9 seminar during our trip to the States - an experience that was hugely influential and something I’ll never forget. He even invited us to stay with him and his family, which sadly we didn’t have time to do, but the generosity of that offer from someone we had only just met has always stayed with me.

That Sydney seminar was also the first time I met KNPV Manni offspring who’s lines I would eventually go on to breed from (there were 6 Manni grandkids at our NZ seminar!), and meeting @ascension_canine_training, who later introduced mantrailing to NZ.

I’ve wanted to bring this seminar to NZ for the past 8 years, and somehow, it was even better than we could have hoped for. The sport side of it is incredibly fun, but what makes this weekend so special is that it isn’t about winning or points. It’s about having a blast with your dog, supporting the people around you, building skills, and most importantly, growing the confidence of both dogs and handlers. Watching people step outside their comfort zones, back themselves and their dogs, and genuinely celebrate each other’s progress was pretty special.

Looking back, it’s incredible to see the butterfly effect of that one weekend in 2018 - how much of our lives and so many of the things we love can be traced back to the people, opportunities and connections that came from it.

And beyond all of that, Paul is simply an incredible human. So much knowledge and experience, yet with absolutely zero ego. He is kind, humble, generous, and always seems more interested in supporting and talking up everyone around him than himself.

It’s an absolute honour to know you and call you a friend, Paul. Thank you for everything, and for a ripple effect that you probably never realised you started. ❤️

Mistakes happen, the important thing is that we learn from them.

Note: Some people find lift-offs to be controversial, but lift offs are an important technique for K9 handlers for several reasons, one of them being that, when done correctly (like the second video), it allows you to remove a dog off a bite safely while remaining in physical control and having the capability to prevent any unintended re-biting. In a high pressure situation it is often more reliable than a verbal out, and therefore quicker and more effective. We don’t use lift offs because we don’t have an out (you’ll see she outs cleanly after the ass bite and in plenty of other videos on my page), we use them because they are sometimes the more appropriate option for the situation.

*Disclaimer - all props including jugs and sticks are extremely soft and foamy. They are designed to emulate a “fight” but do not hurt or scare the dog in any way. This is all just for funsies 🐶

@irondogk9 seminar is a wrap and what an insane 3 days of playing cops and robbers under the guidance of the amazing Paul Ludwig 🤩 Ricky and I have been wanting to bring this seminar to NZ for the past 8 years since we attended as spectators in Australia 2018. We finally have enough capable dogs and it was definitely worth the wait!

I adored working Falco but actually got even more joy seeing my friends get to experience it with their dogs - especially the Legacy bred dogs; Grit, Juice, Nova & Reaper all Mena x Bombers who smashed it!

Huge thanks also to our amazing decoys @leviathan_canine @ratbag_and_sai @krishnaasanal @rick__bruce & JP for donating their skills, money, time and bodies 🙏 As well as our content creators @nirvanaleas.lens @commongroundphoto (who took the cover pic!) @chloeshootsshit @thelifeofrosa.and.co & @hybriddogtraining 🤩 by @irondogk9
