I want to personally thank Paul @irondogk9 for welcoming me and allowing me to be a part of your team at @atk9usa . It was a great experience working alongside such a dedicated group of people, sharing knowledge, learning from one another, and continuing to grow as trainers.

I appreciate the opportunity, the hospitality, and the time spent working together. Looking forward to future events and continuing to learn from each other. Good people, good dogs, and a shared passion for the work 🐕

Throwback to IronDog 2025.

It’s crazy to think Kato was once this small and now at nearly 3.5 years old he’s already starting to go grey🥹

No matter what we do or what gets thrown at him, he’s a dog that always gives it his all🖤

One of my good friends, who has watched Conan’s progression over the last few years, made a comment this week about how much better she’s gotten around men.

For anyone who knew Conan a few years ago, she would see a man and make a HARD U-turn. And that fear didn’t come from nowhere.

But now? Conan loves on handlers when they need it most. She’s playful, affectionate, and genuinely loves life again.

And watching that transformation has been a painful but beautiful reminder that you cannot heal in environments that continue to hurt you.

I think a lot of people in the K9 community need to hear that, too.

There are people in this profession who love what they do so deeply that they’ll take blow after blow to the chin for the love of the game.

They’ll tolerate toxic leadership, disrespect, and environments that slowly break them down because they love the dogs, the work, and the people beside them.

But that shit adds up.

And before you know it, something you once loved becomes something you’re simply trying to survive.

We convince ourselves that if we just work harder, give more, or become tougher, things will get better.

But your ability to endure something doesn’t mean you should have to.

Sometimes you have to make the painful decision to walk away from an environment you love because of what it’s doing to you.

That doesn’t mean you weren’t passionate enough. It doesn’t mean you failed.

You can love something with your entire heart and still recognize that the environment you’re in is destroying you.

Conan didn’t need to become a different dog. She needed to feel safe enough to be herself again.

And maybe some of us need that, too.

Sometimes walking away isn’t giving up. It’s choosing to heal. 🩵
