What a weekend for @anderburycoaching athletes. We couldn’t be more proud.

🇫🇷 70.3 Worlds Championship Nice
@alice_tri_life & @maddyadamson absolutely crushed it. Fantastic bike efforts and run splits we can all dream of. Maddy going under 1:30 for the first time! What a place to do it!

Back in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 @ryan_brown98 came top 20 at Vitruvian & @scottsouthey upgraded from pacing a half marathon to a full. Always giving back 💪

And last but not least @ironman.jonathan slayed the dragon in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. A mechanical made him ride in the big ring and trash his legs but still kept his head in the game and lived to tell the tale.

Each athlete has worked tirelessly over the last year and it’s a weekend we can feel super proud as coaches. 🙌

Somehow survived Ironman Number 6 and 3rd Ironman wales

Came in with much lower training levels 23% lower due to injuries so new it would be a tough test. It rained solid for 48 hours.

Felt good approaching race but it seems over night my bike got damaged or was banged as I couldn’t use my easy gears on the climbs. I had a couple of chain drops early on. Then I stopped using my easiest 4 gears on the small ring.

Had to walk wiseman’s x2 but made it up all the other climbs. Had doubts at times I’d finish the bike after a poor swim and mechanicals.

Legs totally destroyed after an overgear 112 miles av cadence 64😬😳 walked to first aid station 2 miles in 28 mins and was very close to calling it a day. But Pepsi Max came to my rescue.

Back to reality now after my mum died in the lead up to the Ironman. Dad has moved to a private care home 3.5 hours away and the family house needs to be cleared out prior to sale.

Welldone to everyone who slayed the dragon 🐉 it was a brutal day. Body hurts so bad today like never before !

On Sunday we have another 3 athletes racing. In Wales @ironman.jonathan is aiming to slay the drag once again! Power is nothing without control - let’s do this!

@ryan_brown98 is taking on the Vitruvan, nice local race. We won’t tell him it’s also the English champs 👀

It wouldn’t be a month without @scottsouthey pacing an event. He’s over in Richmond this week! His training is going so well so it’ll be a nice walk in the park for him 😉 by @ironman.jonathan

Sadly Ironman was training not been great. Mum was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. In simple terms that means you cant eat any solids. For 6 weeks she lived on 400ml of soup per day.

I never thought it would be my mum, I knew about cancer but always thought it would never happen to my mom. Cancer is real and horrific I wouldn’t wish what I’ve witnessed in the last 6 weeks on my worst enemy.

My mum was healthy constantly telling me don’t eat rubbish brush your teeth goto the dentist. My mother passed away on Tuesday aged 84 from pancreatic cancer ♋️ she was married to dad for 59 years. She had plenty of life left in her.

My mother was a @cr_uk cancer research volunteer for 35 years and in 2021 she was made Honary fellowship of cancer research UK and was winner of cancer research UK Flame of Hope award in 2021. This award is awarded to inspiring volunteers.

Where does this leave Ironman Wales 2026 ? I’ve thought about pulling out multiple times training has been terrible vs previous years. 32% lower training volume YTD vs 2023 17% lower vs 2024 and 23% lower 2025.

The last 12 weeks I’ve averaged 10:07:05 training per week and the last 5 weeks 11:19:24. Having done Ironman wales twice before 2024/2025 I know it will be even more brutal as run volume is 46% lower vs 2025.

But my mum really wanted me to do it, but the last 6 weeks have been so hard working 55 hours a week driving 450-600 miles a week on hospital/hospice/care home visits then trying to do what training I can. So we turn up on 13th September and hope to finish.

It hadn’t sunk in yet that I’ll never see or speak to my mum again 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 But I know she’ll be watching every step of my day on the 13th September hopefully to 140.6 miles.

Ironman Wales 2025 - Drove in solid rain for 8 hours to get there. Then we had the wind 💨 then on the Saturday relentless rain ! Then the sun and strong wind came on race day! Ironman number 5 ✅ Ironman Wales 2 ✅ lots to learn from this race. Plus points 14 min swim improvement vs 2024 24 min bike improvement vs 2024 sadly worst ever Ironman marathon as sickness kicked in at 11 miles. But the main goal was met reaching the red carpet 14.6% didn’t. New Ironman PB excited to go again in 2026.

Just like that 36 days to the big one. Biggest two weeks coming up starting next week.

Last 28 days have been challenging with work challenges. I know I could be in such a better position but no excuses it is what it is.

Last 28 days hours worked = 247:30:00
Last 28 days hours trained = 52:55:52

Plus points no injuries mini trip to Tenby incoming, teaching myself lots of bike mechanics which is saving so much time and 💷

474 hours training for the year so commitment has definitely been there for Ironman number 5.
