Advice for Your Healing Journey 🧡
In Episode Three of Woven Spirit: Threads of Wisdom, Sam George (Tseatsultux), Squamish Elder and residential school Survivor, shares heartfelt advice for those navigating their healing journey.

Sam speaks to the importance of seeking support, surrounding yourself with positive influences, and taking the time to reflect on who you are and where you want to go. Healing is not something you have to navigate alone.
Through his own experiences, Sam reminds us to trust ourselves, ask for help when we need it, and take steps toward a healthier future.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🩷

Caring for ourselves and one another includes making space for conversations about our health, accessing information, and supporting those navigating health challenges.

Everyone deserves access to compassionate, culturally safe care. The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) offers resources to help First Nations people learn more about cancer screening and available services.

A heartfelt thank you to the BC Lions for their continued partnership and support of IRSSS. 🧡

This year’s Orange Shirt Day Game was another meaningful opportunity to honour Survivors, remember those who never made it home, and bring attention to the ongoing impacts of residential schools. We are grateful for the BC Lions’ continued commitment to helping create a safe space for remembrance, connection, and solidarity with Survivors, families, and communities.

Thank you for standing alongside IRSSS in this work and helping keep truth and reconciliation at the forefront. We look forward to continuing this important partnership. by @irsssbc

🧡 Every Orange Sprinkle made a difference.

Together, Tim Hortons guests across Canada helped raise an incredible $979,000 to support five Indigenous charities:

🧡 Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund
🧡 Ulnooweg Education Centre
🧡 Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS)
🧡 New Pathways Foundation
🧡 Orange Shirt Society

As one of the organizations receiving this support, IRSSS extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who purchased an Orange Sprinkle and helped make this incredible contribution possible. Your support helps strengthen the work we do alongside Survivors, families and communities. 🧡 by @irsssbc

What does cultural safety mean to you?

Cultural safety can mean different things to different people.

For some, it may look like being heard and respected. For others, it may mean being able to speak your language, practice your culture, access ceremony, or enter a space without having to explain or defend who you are.

At IRSSS, cultural safety is an important part of the support we provide to Survivors, intergenerational Survivors, families, and communities.

We believe listening to community is an important part of understanding what culturally safe support can look like.

When you hear the words “cultural safety,” what comes to mind?

September 30th is over. But the work isn’t.

Truth and reconciliation is not something we leave behind when the day is over. It lives in the work we do throughout the year. In our communities, our connections, and the ways we keep culture alive and carry it forward.

At IRSSS, we believe healing happens through culture, connection, and community. In the songs we share, the medicines we gather, the ceremonies we carry forward, and the spaces we create for Survivors and their families.

The work continues. We keep listening, learning, showing up, and taking action alongside Survivors, families, and communities.

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

For many in the IRSSS community, this day is deeply personal. There is no one way to experience it. It can bring grief, anger, remembrance, connection, or reflection. Whatever this day brings, you do not have to move through it alone.

Find a gathering or event in your community where you can be together, share space, and find connection.

At IRSSS, we believe culture is how we heal. Healing happens all year—in the songs, medicines, ceremonies, and connections we carry forward across generations.

We will not allow hate or denialism to define this day. We stand together in strength, honour Survivors, remember the children, and continue the work of reconciliation.
