It was a pleasure attending Kekinow Housing Society's resources fair today.
I was joined by our @mvtp_blueeagle Surrey counterpart, Sgt. Jasmines of @surreypoliceservice.
The event made for some great networking and allowed for clients to access various resources available to the community.

Following the recent incident it understable for a lot of people to experience a range of emotions, especially for survivors, families and allies that show endurance in unraveling truths and memories of those affected by the residential school system, and seeking justice and honorability to those missing. We would like to share some guiding words spoken by Elder Diena Jules and TRU Chancellor DeDe Derose, that serve as encouragement in choosing understanding over hate, connection over division, and hope over fear. For anyone who may be needing access to resources for support, scroll to the last slide @irsssbc, @fnha, @thelegacyofhope.

Truth and Reconciliation Day is personal because it’s where I get to live and enjoy each day.

There’s a lot to learn about indigenous culture and what I’ve learned so far is absolutely beautiful and reminds me a lot of what my grandparents would have taught us.

On my trip to India I plan to have many deep conversations to learn more about the history, not just of Sikhs but of all different backgrounds.

I would love to have those same chats about Indigenous culture here.

Follow for more.

Today we take time to honour the Survivors of residential schools, the children who never came home, and the families and communities still feeling the impact.

As a training organization, education is at the core of what we do. If you’re looking for somewhere to start with your learning, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (@nctr_um) and Orange Shirt Society (@orangeshirtsociety) both have great resources. Phyllis Webstad’s story is also worth reading in her own words.

Many of our clients are from Indigenous communities and businesses around Saskatchewan and we are very grateful for their trust when it comes to the services we provide. While providing education on topics like Microsoft applications and soft skills courses for their communities, it’s always such a pleasure to be welcomed with open arms and, at the same time, to be able to learn about their rich culture, languages, and histories.

Join us in pausing, listening, learning, and remembering. Not just today, but every day.

And please, we are always learning. If we’ve gotten something wrong now or in the future, let us know. We’re open to the conversation and happy to make it right.

If you or someone you know needs support, the National Residential School Crisis Line is available 24/7 at 1-866-925-4419. Let’s spread awareness to let everyone know that help is always available.

Join us in crafting yourself a tiny tee for #orangeshirt Day to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th. This tiny pin is incredibly easy to follow, and comes with both crochet and knitting so we can all create together. Please make, sell, and share to support this mission and message! You can find the pattern for the Mini Orange Shirt by @thespinnacle on our website or Ravelry.

Phyllis Webstad from the Stswecem’c Xgat’tem First Nation sparked the tradition when she shared her powerful story of having her orange shirt taken on her first day at residential school. We wear orange shirts to reflect on the legacy of residential schools and honour the survivors and the children who never returned home.

Every Child Matters.

Proceeds go directly to @irsssbc!

🧡 Today, we honour Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities, and remember the children who never came home.

Reconciliation doesn’t end on September 30. It means challenging anti-Indigenous racism in healthcare and working toward safer, more respectful care for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

We remember today. We will keep learning and keep showing up tomorrow.

Support is available 24/7 through the National Indian Residential School Crisis Line: 1-866-925-4419.

Content warning: This carousel discusses forced assimilation, abuse, and the deaths of Indigenous children in boarding and residential schools. Resources for learning and support are included on the final slide.

Today, on #OrangeShirtDay, we honor the Survivors of Indian boarding and residential schools, their families and descendants, and the children who never made it home. 🧡

At #TheChapterHouse, we also want to remember what could not be erased. Our people are still here and our stories are still being told. Our languages are being shared and our artists are still creating. Our communities are still gathering, laughing, loving, teaching, and carrying our cultures forward.

Today we hold space for grief, remembrance, truth, and healing for every generation that survived so another could be here. #EveryChildMatters. 🧡
