The presentation “In Response To” delves into a research process that uses another artist’s work as its initial point of departure. Allowing guests to puruse a selection of texts, personal archives/photographs, and memories, the presentation will follow Isabel’s own inquiries into how we make home and negotiate the self across different spaces, while connecting these to Reyes’s practice through questions of “what makes people move? How can a source material be a somatic?” JULLS (@projectjulls) will provide sounds to accompany the event as a further sonic response to both Jesús and Isabel practice.

The selected titles respond to themes of queering Afro-diasporic religions, as well as the relationship between atmospheric and environmental conditions and the way our bodies move through/within the domestic and club space as Black Caribbeans.

Guests are invited to take notes and make their own scans as an entry point into their own research inspirations. Drawing on Isabel’s professional experience in libraries and archives, this event considers how informal spaces of research and inspiration from the everyday can become resources for knowledge production.

Weaving the Landscape (CDMX), 2026

I visited Cuidad de Mexico in April and it was truly the first solo trip I had taken where I wasn’t going for a purpose or knew anyone in the city to meet up with. I was just taking in everything at my own pace and wandering the city guided by my love of architecture, being in parks, and experiencing art. I came across this building facade as I was window shopping in Roma Norte and I fell in love; the best kind of street collage. A month or so after, I heard Cecilia Vicuña talk at the Art Institute about her ethos of “weaving the landscape”, and it struck a chord with how I wanted to translate my obsession with this image/memory. Naturally gravitating towards the details that Sherald puts into painting the clothes her models/subjects wear. Love how you can feel how the sweater might pill or hear how the pearls knock together as she walks by. Seeing Sheralds’ work this intimately reminded me of Tanisha Fords writing on the power of self fashioning for Black women: “Through our clothes we can do our own form of worldmaking, imagining possibilities beyond what our current status says is reality” by @is.bel

The summer I learned to work with metal 🌀as you all know im obsessed with ironwork, so to be able to make my own portal in this way felt like a true alignment in how I want to continue progressing in my art skills. Thank you Oxbow for being the best workshop and friendly panopticon a girl could ask for and to Chris (@mango_chunks_ ) who taught me how to use all the power tools from scratch to get this gate done in 4 days.

Sonic Resonance you will always be special and sexy !! @sonic.resonance

To be in the presence of such talent and beautiful souls dedicated to their craft in the middle of Wisconsin nature was so special. I am in awe of the work Rory and Will (@bigheart.bigbrain @wyungfilms ) put into creating such a safe and warm environment that was equal parts knowledge exchange and all night raving. I have felt so inspired through the experience and after to be around people that really champion their pride in the Midwest and making sure people know house music is Black/Chicago/Midwest downnn!

Reflecting on the Curated Library Day programming for Límites Que Respiran last month @kiosk.chi . It was so special to share my personal book collection with everyone and nerd out about the texts and artists books that span from exhibition catalogs, Puerto Rican art, Black art, textiles, ironwork, architecture + fashion. A digital booklist of this collection will be shared on my Substack @ iclowde 🌀

I feel very passionately about access to books and the magic of reading about your interests or being surprised by what draws you about something you didn’t know anything about. Over the past couple of years I have been more intentional about the books I collect, wanting to have printed material that takes me further into the richness of these various topics and highlight different artists practices that contribute to the conversations that inspire me. And finding ways to make these books open to a larger public. It has meant a lot to see my own work published in projects like @cuiruba.libro and @needle_bound , and feel the value of putting together visual art with poetic words and critical theory. by @is.bel
