“This work is as dark as the world itself, and this darkness is also at the heart of the world. The figure in the painting is even darker, because it is only in darkness that light can emerge. It is in darkness that light gains its strength and becomes a source of hope.”

An avid rock climber, @camille.tan_ approaches materials with the same sensitivity to weight, tension, and equilibrium that climbing demands of the body. This physical understanding of balance and natural forces informs every work he creates.

Camille Tan is a French artist and designer based in Brussels. Working primarily with wood, stone, and metal, his mobile sculptures reveal the invisible forces that shape our environment—air currents, light, and the movement of people. They invite viewers to experience space as something living, fluid, and continually in motion.

I work with a lot of international artists, which often means I'm seeing work for the first time through photographs rather than in person.

One of the greatest thrills in my work is that moment of seeing new work in person–whether it's in the artist's studio, or as is often the case here, when it arrives from overseas.

I was very happy to place the work "Red Beach" by Gideon Summerfield with a wonderful collector, a painting I have adored and admired. But there's always a little tinge of sadness in saying goodbye to a work you love.

Luckily for us, Gideon had a sister painting to this work, titled "Window In The Rock" – a meditation on the physical sensation of being absorbed in a landscape. It is dramatic and chromatic and full of energy. And it has just arrived here from England.

Our favorite framers at Ziello are currently building a custom frame for the piece, which will soon be on view at our Chelsea gallery.

Climate Week NYC is happening through September 27, with more than 1,000 events, activations, and campaigns taking place across the city.

In conjunction with Climate Week, we invite you to discover the work of Frank Webster, a landscape artist who has dedicated much of his practice to documenting the natural environment, with a particular focus on receding glaciers and landscapes undergoing profound change.

Currently on view at the gallery is a recent series of watercolor paintings created during Webster’s travels through Argentine Patagonia, a location he had wanted to visit for 20 years. The works are part of his ongoing exploration of deep time—the vast geological timescale through which landscapes are formed and transformed.

Visit climateweeknyc.org to explore the full calendar and map of events happening throughout the city.

“Planting a tree with my mom whenever I return to Portugal has become a bit of a ritual for both of us. I wanted to honor all the symbolism behind that gesture—the fact that we’re placing new roots in the place where I have my own; the act of hope that is to plant a tree in a world that seems many times uncertain.“ – @joana.galego

This painting captures a moment of care and nurturing. The simple act of planting roots becomes an expression of hope and leaves a physical testimony of a moment I share with a loved one.

Galego also finds inspiration in friends who are deeply knowledgeable and passionate about gardening, who see the act of cultivating and caring for the natural world as a profound action for good.

“I have a big love for color, and I’m not afraid of using a lot of color. For me, inspiration comes from things that have emotional value for me. I am primarily occupied with bringing associations within the viewier, bringing forth positive energy within the viewer.

The paintings are often full of humor, nostalgia, and love. I’m playing around with my own feelings, putting them onto the canvas, and seeing how that reflects out into the world.” - @andersscrmnmeisner

These works by Danish artist Anders Scrmn Meisner are on view at both our Chelsea and Tribeca locations in September ✨

"Red Beach is the result of sustained observation, a culmination of many drawings made while studying the same view of the coast. Over time, I became captivated by the transient patterns of the tide, the way water interacts in endlessly changing rhythms.

This piece attempts to capture not a single moment, but the sense of continual movement – the energy and urgency of waves coming into the red beach, striking the rocks and then retreating, only to return again." - Gideon Summerfield

This beautiful work by British artist Gideon Summerfield is on view this September at our Chelsea location ✨

The work is hung alongside several smaller works by the artist depicting scenes from The British Channel Islands.

How could I put these pictures into words? Expressive – expansive – full of life and breath and movement – a rawness and purity of emotion.

I hope you can come see these works over the coming weeks. I'm very honored to have them on exhibition this month.

Liu Shuishi “You 10” 2025
Oil on canvas
71 x 51”

On view this month in Chelsea ✨

In this painting, the red circle is a representation of zero. Zero symbolizes a point of origin, containing infinite generative potential. This concept is visually echoed by the whimsical wing emerging from the subject's head, suggesting a moment of ignition, like an idea taking flight, or a moment of creative or cosmic genesis.

"You 10" is oriented towards the future. Turning its gaze toward what is to come, the painting engages with a global landscape shaped by AI and rapidly developing technologies. It invites us to reflect on the future of art, where humanity is heading, and the origins of creation itself.
