BASED ON A TRUE STORY—

10 years ago, Emily woke up to hear God say: “This is not your home.” We were living in Charlotte at the time, and we definitely didn’t get all the details upfront 😂. So, we prayed for six months, asking God for wisdom and direction. Eventually, we became convinced He was leading us to NYC.

We moved there with no jobs and no place to live (we crashed with friends until we found a place). And yes, we worked at a Mexican restaurant in Harlem until it became very apparent that we were being led to accept worship pastor positions at the local church we had been attending.

We weren’t always on the “same page,” there were times when we questioned everything. God rarely speaks in the way we think He will, but He is always faithful to lead us as we seek Him.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6

Looking back 10 years later, we can see so many ways God was faithful—even when we couldn’t see the whole picture.

Sometimes obedience looks less like knowing all the details and more like taking the next faithful step.

All jokes aside. It’s important to pray for our kids🙏🏽

Here are 3 prayers you can pray when they’re away. ❤️

1.) A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION
Psalm 121:7-8

Lord, watch over my children wherever they go. Protect them from harm, seen and unseen. Give them discernment to recognize danger and courage to walk away from anything that isn’t good for them. Remind them that You are always with them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

2.) A PRAYER FOR WISDOM
James 1:5

Father, give my children wisdom in every decision they face. Help them recognize truth, choose what is right, and stand firm in their convictions, even when others don’t. Surround them with wise influences and guide their steps. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

3.) A PRAYER FOR THEIR HEARTS & FRIENDSHIPS ❤️
Proverbs 4:23

Lord, guard my children’s hearts. Protect them from the pressure to fit in and the need for approval. Surround them with friends who speak life and encourage them to grow. Remind them of who they are in You and how deeply they are loved. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I heard a story once of a dad who went fishing with his son. Years later after the father died, the son looked through the father’s journal it read, “ no fish caught. What a waste of time.”
The son had written in his own journal, “went fishing with my dad. Had the best day ever.”

Contrary to much thought, extravagance doesn’t equate “more love.” Many people spend a lot of money to pacify the people in their lives with a hollow sign of affection.

Much is said and even much more heard with the sacrifice of time.

Don’t overthink it. Schedule it and do it.

We are so easily formed by the pattern of the world—produce, achieve, accomplish, worry about it all—that we can forget how to simply be alive. We become slaves to our work, our striving, and ultimately to the patterns of sin that tell us our worth must be earned.

But Sabbath interrupts that pattern.

It teaches us to stop. To receive. To delight. To play. To notice beauty. To discover what makes our souls come alive.

Sabbath is the practice of freedom—the freedom Christ gives us to live not as slaves to our work or our sin, but as beloved children of God.
