5. September - 20:00h @ausland.berlin

Thank you so much for organising this and inviting us! This will be the first 8Y7 Duo concert, and I’m very happy to have the chance to perform with the great artist Lázara Rosell Albear in Berlin!

Also looking forward to the other duo that evening, Eric Mingus & Catherine Sikora!

8Y7 is a duo project since 2025 by Isabel Anders (piano, composition) with Lázara Rosell Albear (drums, pocket trumpet)

Pianist Isabel Anders’s somnambulistic improvisations are like voyages of discovery. They move forward tentatively, as if an abyss were yawning beside every step. Lázara Rosell Albear creates dense textures of white noise and shimmering trills on her mini-trumpet. On the drums, she impresses with an incisive style characterized by sparse accents and densely interwoven cymbal work. Anders and Albear have already test-ed the dynamic magnetism of their interplay in various configurations. The communication between them is immediate and direct.

The program includes Cuban rhythms, composed gestures/ elements and free improvisation. The title and concept are inspired by Afro-Cuban Yoruba mythology and the Orishas, which are understood as deities in this context. This tradition includes a form of theatrical staging with specific and invented instruments, drum patterns, chants, as well as movements.

Lázara Rosell Albear is a Belgian-Cuban artist and graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK, Ghent), and co-founder of MahaWorks. Her practice combines sound research, performance, film, drawing, and installation. Her work focuses on transgression, presence, resonance, vibration, new worlds, and poetry.

Founded in 2024, the Berlin Piano Duo Festival has since grown into a small team united by the shared vision of establishing Germany’s first festival dedicated to free piano duo improvisation.

The third edition of the festival will take place on 4 & 5 November 2026 at the Exploratorium Berlin.

To help realize the 3rd edition of the Berlin Piano Duo Festival, we are currently running a crowdfunding campaign. All donations will be used exclusively to cover travel expenses, fair artist fees, as well as piano tuning, documentation, and other production costs. We would be very grateful for your support by donating or sharing the campaign.

The festival is dedicated to free and experimental improvisation for two grand pianos. Berlin-based and internationally acclaimed pianists meet in an unconventional setting that differs from the classical concert format, engaging in a musical dialogue without predetermined stylistic boundaries. We aim to place the broad spectrum of individual artistic expression at its center while giving the piano duo within free improvisation greater visibility and recognition.

Invited and confirmed pianists (further announcements to follow)

Elias Stemeseder (AUT) & Georg Vogel (AUT)
Eli Wallace (USA) & Anaïs Tuerlincks (BEL)
Uli Gumpert (GER) & Oliver Schwerdt (GER)
Luca Manzo (ITA) & Hada Beneditto (ESP)
Jordina Millà (ESP) & To be announced soon
Sylvia Bruckner (AUT) & To be announced soon

please visit the link in our bio.
Every contribution and every share helps to make the festival possible!

Thank you for the invitation! 🌕🌑

I’m looking forward to stepping in for Antonis Anissegos tonight for Take a Nap Night, a theatre project by Selina Thüring!

A. Skandal (performer),
Adam Schiffer (classical singer)
Antonia Glugla (singer)
Raúl Vargas (performer/dancer)
Dany Vargas Torres (performer/dancer).

Inspired by ancient Greek healing sanctuaries - where theatre, baths, and restorative sleep were woven together - Take a Nap Night invites you into a collective experience of rest.

Rest, sleep, and dream in a shared space. Throughout the night, the performers become dream companions, gently accompanying your journey between wakefulness and sleep.

Tickets can only be purchased only online. Breakfast is included if you stay until the end. Mattresses are provided. Link in my bio/ story. taken in Genezarethkirche (Berlin - Neukölln) by @isabel_anders_

Last Wednesday at @hosekcontemporary felt like the beginning of something rather than just another concert. It was the first performance of our new trio, IRIS.

I've been fortunate to share the stage with @isabel_anders_ and @andreasvoccia in different constellations over the past few years, but this was the first time the three of us came together as IRIS.

Sometimes a new ensemble needs time to find its own language. Ours seemed to discover it from the very first sounds.

What stayed with me most was that we never rushed to find common ground. The music seemed to emerge from listening rather than from individual gestures. Sounds were allowed to resonate, dissolve and transform before another sound emerged. Moments like these can't be planned. They simply happen if you're lucky.

Every time I play at Hošek Contemporary, I feel that the place quietly becomes part of the music. There is something about this old ship, its acoustics, its intimacy, and the way sound seems to linger inside the wooden hull, that invites a different kind of attention. It encourages patience, detail and risk in equal measure.

I have a feeling this is only the beginning.

Improvised & Experimental 286

This Wednesday at @hosekcontemporary , two very different approaches to improvised music will share the evening.

The first set will be performed by @kkto.duo / KvT / @kvt.red (Kata Kovács, Tom O’Doherty and Jérémie Mortier). The second will be IRIS, a brand new trio with @isabel_anders_ (piano), @andreasvoccia (analogue synthesizer) and myself on acoustic 5-string viola.

I’ve had the pleasure of playing with Isabel from time to time over the past few years, and over the past year Andreas and I have also shared the stage in different projects. This time is different. Although each of us already knows one of the others musically, the three of us have never played together before.

I don’t really know what this trio sounds like yet. We’ve never played together in this formation before. Maybe that’s the most exciting part. Sometimes a new constellation reveals something that none of the individual collaborations could have anticipated.

Rather than arriving with a fixed idea, we’ll see where the evening takes us. I’m curious to hear what kind of sound world will emerge from the meeting of piano, analogue synthesizer and acoustic 5-string viola.

If you’re in Berlin, we’d be delighted to see you there.

CONTOURS I (since 2024). Pearling textures condense, thin, and recede in breathing arcs, opening into images.

Now part of CONTOURS — a solo piano cycle consisting of three ~15-minute pieces. Recurring patterns connect the pieces. Throughout the cycle, they evolve through rhythmic displacement into different forms. Drawing inspiration from composers ranging from Ravel to Ligeti.

Small memory-insight from a warm-up one day before the first performance of the 12 IMPROVISED ÉTUDES project, which took place on Alexander Scriabin’s birthday, January 6, at Kühlspot.

I’m very happy to invite you to my next two solo project — concerts in Berlin!

On April 30 @sowieso_berlin, I open with a short piece CONTOURS I, a new solo project cycle, followed by the second set: 12 IMPROVISED ÉTUDES inspired by the late works of Alexander Scriabin.

On May 6, I will perform the 12 IMPROVISED ÉTUDES as a full evening program for those who cannot attend on April 30 — please come by to Salon Lecretóir in Wedding!

It was an honour and a particular pleasure to play for the first time at the Janáček Museum in Brno — a solo concert on the original piano of the great composer Leoš Janáček.

It was a very intense and emotional atmosphere.
Alongside the instrument, the museum holds manuscripts and fragments of his compositions, giving insight into his work. If you happen to be in Brno, don’t miss the chance to visit. ✨

unexpectedly we were able to close the exhibition with a spontaneous trio with Pavel Zlámal and Radim Hanousek — more insights about this in the coming days✨

Thank you to everyone involved! especially Jarda/ Jaroslav Šťastný for his exhibition, to the Janáček Museum, and for the documentation:
