BJC Focus: Steady Hands
October 10th and 11th

Join the Baltimore Jewelry Center for our annual symposium, BJC Focus: Steady Hands. Together, we’ll explore what occurs when we slow down and look more closely at our work and working practices.

Presented to coincide with Handwork 2026, a year-long initiative from Craft in America @craftinamerica, this year’s symposium invites speakers who consider thoughtful making, traditional techniques, contemplation, and practices that resist the pressure for speed and efficiency. Day two of the symposium will be an open studio, with free studio rental available to our community and an opportunity to spend the day making something by hand.

Saturday, October 10 | 12–3pm ET

Product shots of new project, “Gestaltzerfall,”which is German for “wholeness decomposition,” a psychological phenomenon where the holistic structure of a complex form breaks down into meaningless parts.

The wearable objects belong to a series of 3-part masks made of pâte de verre glass, along with oxidized red brass, hemp cord, and raw quartz. Photo credit goes to the wonderful @tommuirmetalsmith. The last image was a quick lighting test taken with my phone. I liked how the three parts were having a silent conversation in the same frame.

A special thank you to @jennifermarcson for being a lovely studio assistant. I am still working on designing the video performance this summer and hope to start production in the fall… More soon!

I took a 4-day anticlastic raising workshop with the metal-forming legend 🌟Michael Good🌟@michaelgooddesigns. It was a fantastic experience. I learnt a lot and made some fun samples, all formed from 220 bronze sheets.

Image 1: the whole sample family;
Image 2: hyperbolic paraboloid, 2” and 2.5” square;
Image 3: double helix, ruffle, torque earring (ear wire isn’t finished yet);
Image 4: closed seam spiculum (bracelet), helicoidal form (hasn’t finished closing yet).

Excited to be participating in the “Lasting Legacy/Inspired Response” exhibition at the College of Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit, organized by Michigan Silversmith Guild @misilversmith. I will be showing the crafted objects and performance video of my piece “Fingertips” alongside the amazing works of my mentor, @tommuirmetalsmith, and many other wonderful artists. Exhibition runs from June 8-29, overlapping the SNAG conference this year.

As part of the 2026 Performancear O Morir @performancear_o_morir, a site-specific performance art event in Norogachi, Mexico, M and I performed at an arroyo which runs through the edge of town. The performance explores symbiotic/antagonistic relationships, power dynamics, and futile attempts to pursue wholeness.

I performed one of the "Bruce Nauman walks" under the gaze of the mountain top, as part of the 2026 Performancear O Morir @performancear_o_morir, a site-specific performance art event in Norogachi, Mexico. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime unique experience for us.
