BJC Focus: Steady Hands
October 10th and 11th

Join the Baltimore Jewelry Center for our annual symposium, BJC Focus: Steady Hands. Together, we’ll explore what occurs when we slow down and look more closely at our work and working practices.

Presented to coincide with Handwork 2026, a year-long initiative from Craft in America @craftinamerica, this year’s symposium invites speakers who consider thoughtful making, traditional techniques, contemplation, and practices that resist the pressure for speed and efficiency. Day two of the symposium will be an open studio, with free studio rental available to our community and an opportunity to spend the day making something by hand.

Saturday, October 10 | 12–3pm ET

Online artist talks featuring :
-Emily Banas @decartscurator
-Naama Levit @naamalevit
-Jolynn Santiago @jolynnsantiago
-Isabel Zeng @isabelzzeng

This lecture series is free and open to all via Zoom.

Sunday, October 11 | 12 – 6pm
Join us at BJC for an open studio day with FREE studio rental, demonstrations, and a chance to spend the day making alongside our community.

Both days are free to attend.

A little raising demo with the incredible David Huang⚒️✨

We are so lucky to have had the opportunity to watch David demonstrate a variety of raising techniques and tools during his demo at SNAG. He is truly a technical master when it comes to forming!

A week ago I returned from Mexico and I am learning how to be here again...
After a time that was intense, full, dense with encounters and presence, everything feels both close and very distant.
The whole experience stayed somewhere in the body, in the pulsing, in the rhythm, in something I still cannot name and maybe I want be able to...
This is only a small fragment of a three-day ritual of the Rarámuri community in Norogachi,
which we were able to witness together with a group of artists invited by Gustavo Alvarez / Performancear o Morir <3
These celebrations take place during Holy Week, a form introduced by missionaries, which the Rarámuri have woven into their own rhythm of the world, connected to the cycles of life, land, and community.
Dance here is not a form of expression, it is an action, a relation, a way of sustaining the world.
The Rarámuri dance for three days and three nights !
They say that if they stop dancing , the world begins to fall apart.

Woman Made Gallery presents Quiet Piggy: We Cannot Be Silenced, a powerful virtual group exhibition featuring 58 artists from the US and abroad, juried by Julie Carpenter. The exhibition confronts misogynistic language head-on, reclaiming derogatory terms as a rally cry for resilience, resistance, and defiance.

Swipe to see our featured artists' work and visit our website to see the whole virtual exhibition: https://womanmade.org/quiet-piggy/

Unconventional ideas spark curiosity.
Sleepy Eyes challenges both the audience and the artists to experience cinema differently.

Films are taken out of traditional spaces and placed directly in the street — creating new questions, new rhythms, and new ways of watching.

We asked some of the selected artists what this shift meant for them, and their answers surprised us.
