This is part of a tableware commission that the client ended up waiting for a year to receive in full. I had to totally remake the plates and pasta bowls twice after first a clay fault and then a firing/glaze fault. I am so grateful that the client stuck with me and never once added to my own despair. We ended up with a set that I am very proud of and he was very pleased with 🌺.

LAST OPEN STUDIO at Brampton Bryan. SATURDAY 4th APRIL 10-4pm. All of the work shown here will be for sale alongside lots of others. Also seconds and misfits. I’m leaving the studio a the end of April and would love to see anyone who can make it. I’ll put remaining items onto my online shop after the 4th but let me know if you see anything you’d like to buy but can’t make it to the open studio and don’t want to risk missing it.

@aardvarkbookscafe will be having their first Flea Market of the year up the road (the last with Sheridan and Sarah at the helm 😔).

I’ve happily found a new groove with firing this year as I make my way through my remaining commissions and orders. Lots of very satisfying white celadon and Tenmokus coming from a neutral atmosphere in the gas kiln between 900-1280degrees C. The cereal bowls in this post have had the glazed wiped back on their chamfered rims, showing lovely tone variations on the clay from gold to warm grey. The quality of the white glaze is really gorgeous too, like fresh snow in bright sunshine. Ahhhhh, pottery 🙆🏽‍♀️🤍💛

2026: No more monkey bars

Last year was too hard. There were kiln and firing faults, clay supplier errors, human failure (after human failure), volatile neurology and all-in-all a little too much acceptance and breaking-up of pots lost to every conceivable misfortune. My last firing of 2025 was on 28th November and it really felt like the finally release of an initially fun and eventually exhausting journey over a long stretch of monkey bars. It was another bad firing. My body had enough and my let my grip slide.

I will always love the thing about ceramics that I’ve never been able to explain but the time has come for me to step away. Throwing takes me to a place of serenity and bliss but other aspects can cause enough anxiety and exhaustion to trigger my epilepsy. Simple. I’m packing down my studio but keeping some kit as I do have seeds of ideas for a different approach in the future. For now however, I am laying down the sponge.

I’m weirdly not at all sad; I’m ready and I’m really quite excited. There are other things, other subjects and other personal and intellectual priorities that I want to focus on. I’m also pregnant again :) Thing 2 is coming and motherhood flows excitedly in my veins (very different second time around).

I’m going to have a final online sale at some point and a final open studio too. I’ll do my best to advertise more than 24 hours in advance :p

Lots of love and thanks for the support I’ve had from those who’ve bought pots from me and left positive comments on here over the years. Xx

Today is the last day of an exhibition at @wildegoosenursery with painting by @theshippenatcantlop , sculpture by @sharongriffinart and @farrellyglenartist and textiles by from Laura Rosenzweig. I have some of my wood fired pieces on show and for sale.

“The pieces shown in this exhibition mark a departure from the predominantly fully glazed tableware that has been her focus for the past 10 years. These pots are unglazed, allowing the flow of fire and ash to be the only embellishment to the quiet shapes. They were fired for three days up to 1300 degrees centigrade in a traditional, wood fired anagama (cross-draught) kiln. The wood used was Douglas fir, felled from a managed woodland in Oxfordshire. The clay is a mixture of brown stoneware and porcelain, and all the pieces have been thrown on the wheel.“ by @isatuhyde

Last year I tried wood firing for the first time. No glaze, just the pots standing firm in the flame path as it flowed over and through them like water. It took a few months to accept them as they are but now I love them and don’t quite know how to part with them.
This one was fired on its side, supported by three wads of clay. The body is warm orange and brown on this side and darkened with green and gold on the other side where ash from the flames fell and melted on the surface. Thoughts? I’d be interested to hear some.
