Good wayfinding helps people move through a space without thinking twice. Great wayfinding makes them want to look closer.

Bold enough to catch your eye, seamless enough to become part of the experience.

For a recent life science campus project, we built upon a 21,500 sq. ft. mural painted by @0uizi, creating a wayfinding system rooted in the artwork itself.

Each garage level features a distinct color palette and illustrations of scientifically significant plants drawn from the larger mural. Integrated throughout the garage pathways, these wayfinding elements create multiple opportunities for visitors to engage with the artwork as they navigate the campus.

One year later, we’re reflecting on the ripple effects of Rollerama—a retro roller rink pop-up that turned a Kendall Square parking lot into a joyful, community-powered cultural destination.

What started as a bold placemaking experiment became a magnet for families, professionals, students and skaters alike—drawing 22,000+ RSVPs from folks visiting from 1,200 zip codes and redefining what’s possible when private development invests in public experience.

For property owners or cities looking to activate underutilized spaces, and for community partners and creatives seeking meaningful collaboration—this project raised the bar.

Dive into the full case study and video to see how creative placemaking can turn overlooked spaces into unforgettable places!

We love helping communities tell their stories, and bringing big ideas to life along the way.

Our latest case study highlights our partnership with local leaders in Mason Square, Springfield, Massachusetts, as part of MassDevelopment’s Transformative Development Initiative, which invests financial and technical resources to support Gateway City neighborhoods.

We were challenged to help introduce a new kind of community space designed for connection, creativity, and collaboration: an Urban Room.
Introducing The Root Mason Square!

From naming and brand strategy to a flexible visual identity and website, this project was all about creating a visual story that neighbors could recognize, trust, and make their own.

Art scrim turns construction into an opportunity for connection. Instead of feeling like a disruption, it gives people a reason to stop and admire.
Emma Tavolieri’s “A Window Into Campus” collage series depicts popular Harvard and Boston spots to explore how architecture, memory, and everyday experience shape our sense of place.

Location: Along Dunster Street, facing @eliothouse + @kirklandhouseharvard

Three years ago, we led a study in collaboration with @artsinboston, @agencylp, and @bostonplans.

We had a comprehensive look into civic and cultural waterfront spaces, like who is using them, how many are vacant (a lot), and how the process to tenant one works (yep, it’s complicated).

We created a series of recommendations for the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture and Commonwealth partners to use to improve the system, reduce vacancies, and make the tenanting process go more smoothly.

Now, we’re breaking down the impact. We’ve tracked how the city is progressing AND we’re dropping the names of buildings who are implementing our insights, a recently announced tenant, and where there’s still room for progress.

We close our studio for one full week every August because we believe it’s important for our team to chase magic. Part of building a creative practice over time is protecting the conditions that keep curiosity alive.

These experiences deeply impact how we collectively build communal spaces and shared experiences.
Here’s a glimpse of our team’s found magic woven together!

There was sitting counter service, chatting with chefs as they cooked right in front of them. There was wandering local farmers’ markets and artisan shops. And a healthy dose of dancing butts off at a forest rave.

There was cruise life, too, analyzing a ship as a miniature city on the water and observing how strangers relaxed, connected, and spent their time. There was Copenhagen, immersing in a city where streets and rivers become true public third spaces.

And there was time spent with the ocean. Contemplating this piece of public life in terms of who gets to access it. Experiencing its peace and vastness, as well as the wonderfully democratic ritual of everyone looking out at the same horizon, sharing wonder and calm while collectively fending off birds.

And, of course, there was a volunteer shift at a shelter for senior dogs.

Now, back to building better places. by @isenbergprojects

We were thrilled to bring a temporary installation to build buzz around the @saltandstraw Seaport storefront (now open!) and to give Tall Ship goers a taste of their daringly delicious flavors… Special shout out to Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper and the Arbequina Olive Oil. Both flavors are insanely good. 📣

Ms. Isenberg herself is a former PDX resident and a novice ice cream maker, so getting the opportunity to  bring this PDX darling’s pop-up to Boston was a real thrill.

Go see and taste for yourself. They do ice cream flights, FYI! Salt & Straw storefront is now open at 200 Seaport Boulevard. taken in Seaport District Boston by @isenbergprojects

We’re spotlighting one of our latest art scrim installations: “Sueños de Transformación” (Dreams of Transformation).

We see temporary construction scrim as a powerful placemaking tool, one that can shape perception and tell a story about what is to come.

Missy Arellano’s Sueños de Transformación (Dreams of Transformation) combines her paper doll and Test Anxiety series into layered collages exploring identity, pressure, belonging, and transformation by interrupting systems of evaluation with symbols of growth.

Location: Along JFK Street surrounding @eliothouse at Harvard University

Artist: @miss_collage_mom

Innovation districts have emerged as centers of science, technology, and industry, but at times, they can feel disconnected from the surrounding city fabric. We’ve taken on the challenge to bring humanity into these environments through public art interventions.

The goal: to bridge the gap between science-driven institutions and the people around them, creating experiences that resonate with tenants, visitors, and surrounding communities alike.

Getting ready to explore this weekend? Skip the tourist traps!

In anticipation of a very busy Boston summer welcoming FIFA, Tall Ships, and the country’s 250th Anniversary, we’ve compiled a list of the classics, the under-the-radar favorites, and the places that quietly define Boston culture.

Boston isn’t a city you conquer in a weekend, it’s a city you unlock. And we’ve got the key:
