Lovely surprise today! A half-page feature in the German newspaper Nahe-Zeitung about my sculptural proposal Cloud – Wolke for the Steiger Gallery in Landsweiler-Reden, Germany.

A monumental, floating cloud of discarded iron tools – exploring the relationship between industrial heritage, nature, memory and transformation.

Visitors to the Steiger Gallery can vote for their preferred proposal until 25 October.

Many thanks to Nahe-Zeitung for this generous coverage!

CLOUD — proposal for Steiger Gallery, Saarland, Germany 2026/27.

Selected for the Vorauswahl:
https://steiger-gallery.de/werk/082/

A cloud of hundreds of historic iron mining tools and agricultural ploughshares hangs suspended within the steel structure of CAGE. As if caught in a heavy downpour, individual pieces appear to be falling towards the earth.

The iron of these tools itself comes from the ground. In both mining and agriculture, the earth is broken open to bring something forth – raw materials, energy, food. As a dark cloud, this material returns above the former industrial site.

The installation connects human labour and extraction with their long-term consequences. As fossil energy returns to us in the form of extreme weather, the question arises: what simple tools might we need again in a changed future?

Nequid Pereat: Harvest

Thinking about the soil and our relationship with it. Centuries of extraction, increasingly relentless. What can we give back to the earth that sustains us?
