8.22.26 A good time was had by all at Red Hook’s Proclamation of Historical Significance, the historic panel co-presented by Friends Of Fort Defiance @fortdefianceorg & Red Hook Business Alliance @redhookbiz. Moderated by Greg Young @americanspectacles (The Bowery Boys @boweryboysnyc). A #brooklyn250 event at Valentino Pier, Fort Defiance Place.

Major Kristen Rouse guided an audience of 80 at Valentino Park, Fort Defiance Place, on a map walk-through: it functioned like an Army sand table to visualize the significance of where we were (Fort Defiance) in relation to the lines of effort of the ground troops and what the British naval forces were looking at.

About the importance of doing this exercise, Major Kristen Rouse said:

“Seeing the whole battlefield is key to understanding what happened. Literally looking out onto the water from the site of Fort Defiance and imagining what the British invasion must’ve looked like is absolutely key to understanding how critical it was.

I’m really grateful for the opportunity to bring Red Hook residents and neighbors on a journey through such a significant moment in our young nation’s history.

I am awed by the service and sacrifices of all the Continentals who dared to face the British onslaught in Brooklyn in 1776. It’s so important to give life to what they did and ensure the history is preserved in Red Hook and across Brooklyn.”

Kevin Chapman and Antoine Watts of Living History Co, a black owned operated staffing and casting company that specialized in reenactors of color, attended the panel and discussed the remarkable connection between Red Hook and Black history of the American Revolution.
About this, Kevin said:
“What makes this connection particularly meaningful is that Red Hook and Fort Defiance serve as a historical link between these regiments through the service of Major Samuel Shaw—great uncle of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment—and Colonel James Mitchell Varnum of the 1st Rhode Island Regiment, both of whom served at the fort located within the community. 【この日の為に自分はMOBILESENTOと出逢ったんだ】

これまで自分は7年間に渡って数え切れない程の湯をこのモバイル銭湯で沸かしてきた

渋谷のセンター街に東京タワーに富士山

LAのビバリーヒルズにサソリのいる砂漠にアメリカルート66

日本で一番、本当に誰よりも古今東西この湯と心を日本全国世界各地で今日まで沸かしてきた

…だけど、この日、間違いなくここNYのマンハッタンで命を沸かしたこの瞬間こそが自分のナンバーワンだった

自分が30年の人生で得た全てをこの瞬間に表現し尽くした

この奇跡的な瞬間を共有したNY中の全ての人々が笑っていた

そして何より、ここニューヨークで誰よりも自分は笑っていた

〝日本の湯は間違いなく世界に通じる〟

世界中の人々が一同に集うニューヨークの一番中心マンハッタンで、間違いなくあの日、NY一幸せな光景がそこには広がっていた

この場所この空間この瞬間をNYの皆と共に作り上げられた喜びを一体何に例えよう

誰一人として欠けてはならないマスターピースがそこには広がっていた

こんなにも人種国境全てを超えた美しいチームプレイがあるだろうか

間違いなくNYの歴史に残る奇跡のような伝説の一ページだった

皆で同じ法被を身に纏い互いの夢を語り合う…

7年間のMOBILESENTO人生の中で最も心が震えた日

間違いなく自分はこの日のために“移動式銭湯”という表現を生み出したのだと確信した

この日、NYの人々に「TAKAはいつこのMOBILESENTOという夢を描いたのか？」と聞かれた

自分は迷うことなくこの湯の中でこう答えた

「20年前、自分は誰一人として友達がいなかった。ずっと一人きりの孤独に苦しんできた。私の夢はただ“友達”が欲しかった。そして今、長い時を超えて、世界中の人々とここNYでこうして友達になることができた。私は遂に夢を叶えることが出来た」

…と。

かつて、死にたくなる程苦しい時間を過ごす中でいつしか自分は笑い方を忘れてしまっていた

でも、この日自分はきっと世界中の誰よりも心から笑えていた

〝この日の為に自分はMOBILESENTOと出逢った〟

そして、きっとこの日の為に自分は今日まで生きてきたんだ

WE ARE THE WORLD

人間、裸になれば皆一緒

きっともう、これ以上の言葉はいらない────

【This is why I met MOBILESENTO】

For seven years now, I've used this MOBILESENTO to heat countless baths across Japan and the world.

...But this moment was undoubtedly my absolute favorite.

Everyone in all of New York who shared this miraculous moment was smiling.

In Manhattan, the center of the world where all people gather, that day undoubtedly unfolded the happiest scene in all of NY.

How can I possibly describe the joy of creating this place, this space, this moment together with everyone in New York?

A masterpiece spread out there, where not a single person could be missing.

Could there ever be such beautiful teamwork transcending all races and borders?

It was undoubtedly a miraculous, legendary page in New York's history.

I was certain I had created the MOBILESENTO for this very day.

I HAVE A DREAM

WE ARE THE WORLD

We Are all the same, When we are naked

Surely, no more words are needed now────

I would like to thank everyone who made @redhookopenstudios 10 Year Anniversary a success in celebrating our community’s collective resilience.

Deep gratitude to the artists, makers, sponsors, partners, friends and supporters who, in true Phoenix form and against all odds, pulled off the biggest Red Hook Open Studios to date.

As we rebuild from the tragic material loss and emotional trauma caused by the September 17 fire, I hope we can look back to RHOS 10 #redhookopenstudios2025 as a reminder of how very big things are possible when we come together. It may not always be easy, but it’s sure worth our best shot.

It is autumn and the arcade is still on extended summer hiatus, with no reopening date on sight. Been a rough time out here on the edge of the world 🌊
