8.22.26 A good time was had by all at Red Hook’s Proclamation of Historical Significance, the historic panel co-presented by Friends Of Fort Defiance @fortdefianceorg & Red Hook Business Alliance @redhookbiz. Moderated by Greg Young @americanspectacles (The Bowery Boys @boweryboysnyc). A #brooklyn250 event at Valentino Pier, Fort Defiance Place. Photo: Jennifer Stepanyk Major Kristen Rouse guided an audience of 80 at Valentino Park, Fort Defiance Place, on a map walk-through: it functioned like an Army sand table to visualize the significance of where we were (Fort Defiance) in relation to the lines of effort of the ground troops and what the British naval forces were looking at. Photo: Sophie Cardona About the importance of doing this exercise, Major Kristen Rouse said: “Seeing the whole battlefield is key to understanding what happened. Literally looking out onto the water from the site of Fort Defiance and imagining what the British invasion must’ve looked like is absolutely key to understanding how critical it was. I’m really grateful for the opportunity to bring Red Hook residents and neighbors on a journey through such a significant moment in our young nation’s history. I am awed by the service and sacrifices of all the Continentals who dared to face the British onslaught in Brooklyn in 1776. It’s so important to give life to what they did and ensure the history is preserved in Red Hook and across Brooklyn.” Photo: Jennifer Stepanyk Kevin Chapman and Antoine Watts of Living History Co, a black owned operated staffing and casting company that specialized in reenactors of color, attended the panel and discussed the remarkable connection between Red Hook and Black history of the American Revolution. About this, Kevin said: “What makes this connection particularly meaningful is that Red Hook and Fort Defiance serve as a historical link between these regiments through the service of Major Samuel Shaw—great uncle of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment—and Colonel James Mitchell Varnum of the 1st Rhode Island Regiment, both of whom served at the fort located within the community. These are the two most culturally significant bla

Brooklyn Deserves A World-Class Waterfront - Nothing Less! This as a call to action for everyone to think different, be visionary, be innovative, be bold, BE BROOKLYN! I hope @nycmayor @nycedc can accept this challenge & help us create a World Class Waterfront worthy of the heart & soul of NYC, BROOKLYN! If we compare this current BMT FINAL VISION PLAN with the world’s greatest waterfronts how would it compare? It wouldn’t & that’s the problem & thats unacceptable. Not here in BROOKLYN! Please read my op ed in this month’s issue of @redhookstarrevue & leave comments. What would you like to see this waterfront to look like? Maybe you’re not sure & that’s ok but what message do you want it to convey to the world? When people are crossing that iconic Brooklyn Bridge & they look at our waterfront what do you want them to feel? What do you yourself want to feel when you go there? What Brooklyn values should it represent? This waterfront is the first thing the world sees of our beloved Brooklyn what should it embody? My answer is BROOKLYN’S GREATNESS, nothing less. What’s your answer?

【♨ The Miracle Connecting NY and Japan with @mobilesento_japan ♨】 Last year, as a Japanese bath artist, I traveled across America with MOBILESENTO, finally arriving at my final destination: New York. There, I met everyone who loves bath culture. It was so profoundly wonderful that it changed my life. Meeting @abathingadam and @thehighlineguy , who love bath culture, everyone at @cultureofbatheing , and above all, @_daedalus @healing_sling @metaphormosa , who carried MOBILESENTO into the future—this encounter is undoubtedly a special chapter in my life. And now, I've returned to the streets of New York City, reigniting the heart of MOBILESENTO. It is my profound pride to have been part of MOBILESENTO, representing Japan, on the final day of what will surely go down in New York history as a legendary hot bath festival. Through this experience, I genuinely want to continue creating MOBILESENTO around the world. I want to keep being a bridge between Japan and the world through bathing. Fortunately, I'm still only 30, so I'm thinking about getting a working holiday visa and creating MOBILESENTO in Europe next. It would be fascinating to create MOBILESENTO in places like Finland, a sauna powerhouse.⁡ ⁡⁡ ⁡I'd love to collaborate with German and other European bathing cultures and saunas. ⁡ ⁡⁡Of course, I don't know a single person in Europe yet. I would be truly delighted if anyone could sponsor MOBILESENTO or connect me with local people there. ⁡ In this world, I'm the only one who can create MOBILESENTO. I'm still very much a work in progress, learning something new every day, but my love for bathing is unmatched. Please continue to support me. I promise to connect Japan, the world, and you through MOBILESENTO. And please don't forget: New York will always be my most important HOME. Thank you so much! I love you all!⁡⁡ ⁡⁡ ⁡………⁡ ⁡⁡ “NYで入浴”が再び叶う日が来るなんて思いもしなかった⁡ ⁡⁡ ⁡この⁡溢れんばかりの気持ちを一体何と表現しよう ⁡⁡ ⁡世界は輝かしい奇跡で満ち溢れている⁡⁡ ⁡⁡ ⁡不可能なことなんて何一つない⁡ ⁡⁡ ⁡この先も自分は永遠に世界を沸かし続けてみせよう ⁡⁡ ⁡We are all the same, When we are naked⁡⁡, We are the world ⁡⁡ 〝人間裸になれば皆一緒〟 ⁡⁡ ⁡ありがとう、NYの皆──── ⁡⁡ ⁡2026.3.01⁡ ⁡⁡ ⁡MOBILESENTO TAKA from JAPAN⁡ ⁡⁡ ⁡♨♨♨
