IS THAT GARAGE? VOL. 21
SATURDAY OCTOBER 24

Is that garage?? Put the kettle on, get the crew sorted and come find out.

@waxthief is back on home soil after 8 months overseas. One of the names helping build Australia’s UKG scene from the early days, he’s been part of the movement long before it became the sound of the moment. With Wouldn’t Do and Dance To That fresh in the mix, he’s bringing that proper garage sound back home for a special extended set 🔫

@shez_kurx has been making moves, clocking over 200,000 organic streams across 11 releases in just 10 months. With support from Sammy Virji, Club Angel, Diffrent, SHUFFA and more, he’s bringing his own energy to the dancefloor.

@oskarrrdj joins us with a sound pulling from hard house, UKG and techno. A bit of everything, all made for the dance.

@vsncssa is known around town for her fast, bass-heavy sets, but this time we’re bringing her in for her first-ever garage set. A vocalist, producer and co-founder of FLINTA event series @ritual_rhythm, she brings earworms, cheeky vocal samples, big bass and driving grooves to the mix.

And of course, @garcon.wav is opening and closing the night. Two sets, one resident and plenty of garage tunes.

Combining forces for the greater good of the garage galaxy, we’re excited to present @isthatgarage x Our Garage at @section8melbourne

This Thursday the 8th, expect irresponsible levels of garage, rollers, swingers and warpers as we bring one of New Zealand’s finest, from the @frontlineartists_ home planet @clinkz.nz to the carpark for his Naarm debut.

Clinkz is a Wellington-based DJ championing the new wave of UK Garage. Drawing inspiration from the UK’s underground club scene, his sets are built around groove, swing and heavyweight basslines, blending modern UKG with the wider 130–140 BPM sound. A resident of FROTH, the Wellington and Melbourne-based collective, Clinkz represents a fresh take on UK club culture through a distinctly Kiwi lens, delivering dancefloor-focused selections that are both nostalgic and forward-thinking.

Joining the council will be @brace_______ @kwispynugz @whothefuckis_fozza and your OG x ITG residents taken in Section 8 by @isthatgarage

IS THAT GARAGE? — VOL. 20
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 19

20 of these things. Mad really.

For Vol. 20, we’re bringing together a proper mix of Naarm favourites, interstate heat and two very special guests from the UK.

Headlining the night are GOSSIMA — a masked, anonymous UK collective making left-field bass, hyperpop and indie dance from outside the machinery of the music industry.

Born from the fallout of major-label chaos, lawsuits, contracts and all the other fun bits of the music business, GOSSIMA decided to bin the identities, put on the masks and start again.

The result is a beautifully unhinged collision of distorted bass, euphoric melodies, hyperpop chaos and indie-dance grooves.

No labels. No genre rules. No idea what they’re legally allowed to tell us.

Just good tunes.

We’re also stoked to have KELLS flying over from the UK.

Fresh from a massive set at Boomtown, Kells brings that unmistakable UKG sound — bouncy, bumpy, playful and full of flavour. With releases across Garage Shared, Southpoint, Bubble, Untitled, Subtle, Slime, Pull Up, Four40 and more, plus production work with Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke and a remix of MJ Cole, he’s seriously deep in UK club culture.

Expect proper selector business.

SADIVA returns as one of Naarm’s most trusted dancefloor operators. From Beyond the Valley and Let Them Eat Cake to Red Bull’s Cypher One, international tours and her own community-driven events, she brings years of experience and a sound shaped by both Melbourne and the world.

LIGHT JOG — Shtutz & FAF — bring their unique take on UKG and 140, combining FAF’s bass-heavy productions and two-step rollers with Shtutz’s smooth MC flow. After closing out Section 8 following Bakey & Capo Lee, these two have been making serious noise around Naarm.

FRIEND OF MINE makes the trip down from the Gold Coast with his high-energy take on the UKG revival. With support from DJ EZ, Skeptic and Bushbaby, plus sets alongside Conducta, Osmosis Jones, Prizefight and Isgwan, he’s quickly becoming one to keep a very close eye on.

And of course, GARÇON will be there doing what Garçon does — holding down the foundations and making sure the garage levels remain thoroughly irrespo by @isthatgarage

Right then! We’ve got another one for 🫵🏻

IS THAT GARAGE? - VOL. 19
SATURDAY AUGUST 29th

This time we’re dragging some Northern NSW talent down to Naarm, raiding the local garage scene and giving the dancefloor absolutely no chance of behaving itself.

Leading the charge is @jaitaylormusic , making his Is That Garage? debut with a FULL 2 HOUR SET.

At just 20, Jai has been cooking up music since 12, building a deep catalogue across UKG, House, Bass House, Tech House, Techno and Drum & Bass. After years of club gigs, residencies and shows across the East Coast, he’s already got the kind of experience most DJs would quite like to have by 30.

Next up, @sarahstrongarmsx

Irish-born and Melbourne-based, Sarah is a genre-fluid selector drawing from 90s House, UKG, Acid, Hard House and Trance. She’s supported Carl Cox, Hot Since 82, Franky Rizardo, Darius Syrossian, Alan Fitzpatrick, Richy Ahmed and Max Dean.

Then we’re getting the wax out.

BJI makes his ITG solo debut with a VINYL ONLY GARAGE SET. Co-founder of Spinreal Records, producer and selector across House, Garage and Techno, he’ll be digging deep for timeless garage gems, deep cuts and rollers.

Lufer joins the party too.

A Naarm-based DJ and producer with a love for UK Garage and House, Lufer also ventures into dubstep, breaks and percussive sounds. Having supported MPH, Swimming Paul, Helena Lauwaert and Human Movement, he’s one of Melbourne’s rising talents and sits at the helm of Our Garage.

And obviously, Garcon will be doing what Garcon does best - holding the whole thing together with deep selections, questionable decisions and an unhealthy commitment to UK Garage.

Five selectors. Two hours of Jai. One vinyl set. Zero chance of a sensible bedtime.

Proper garage. Proper people.

IS THAT GARAGE? — VOL. 18

Saturday nights were made for garage.

On July 25, we’re back at The Toff in Town for another journey through the UKG continuum—from soulful rollers and classic 2-step to bassline, percussive club weapons and everything in between. Five hours, one dancefloor, and a lineup built to keep things moving from the first record to the last.

Leading the night is @tuff_trax , a true pillar of Melbourne’s UK garage community. As co-founder of Bubble UKG, one of the city’s longest-running garage collectives, he’s spent years shaping the local sound while releasing on labels including ec2a, Shall Not Fade, Time Is Now and Plastik People. Backed by support from DJ EZ, Interplanetary Criminal, Main Phase, MJ Cole and many more, expect an expertly crafted set from one of Australia’s finest.

Opening the journey is a special @djnattynat b2b @adjnamedolive Two selectors united by a genuine love for UK sounds—NATTYNAT brings infectious energy, jungle roots and bass-heavy selections, while UK-born Olive delivers the unmistakable swing and soul of classic UK garage. Together they’re guaranteed to set the tone from the moment the doors open.

Keeping the momentum rolling is @kahumuru_ , whose sets effortlessly weave together house, boogie, bass and global influences while proudly championing his Māori heritage. Fresh from stepping into the Music Booker role at Section 8, KAHU continues to establish himself as one of Naarm’s most exciting selectors.

Then comes @_mothafunk —Chicago-born, Naarm-based and one of Melbourne’s most respected musical curators. A Triple R host, journalist and lifelong crate digger, she brings an eclectic approach that moves seamlessly through house, disco, breaks, bass and beyond, always with the dancefloor front of mind.

And as the lights dim and the room settles into the early hours, @garcon.wav & Friends take over the controls. The crew behind Is That Garage? return to close things out the only way they know how—with deeper cuts, exclusive dubs, special guests and the unmistakable energy that’s become synonymous with the party.

IS THAT GARAGE? — VOL. 17

@section8melbourne

We’re back

Taking over Section 8 one of Melbourne’s most iconic outdoor venues and a staple of Naarm’s music culture.
We’re once again asking the question, is that garage?

Expect a proper session with a lineup built for the dancefloor, plus a crew of graffiti artists creating spontaneous live pieces throughout the night. No spray cans, no big setups just quick tags and artworks appearing in the moment, so keep your eyes open.

Sound + movement + art.

Featuring:

@dj200
Bringing the swing, breaks and bass. With a background in saxophone, piano and drums, 200’s sets blur the line between live instrumentation and club energy. Expect groove, fun and plenty of bounce.
@t.bracey
Melbourne selector and vinyl lover with a serious collection of deep, dubby and swung-out sounds. Expect warm textures and proper grooves built for moving.

@bbsanii
Producer, instrumentalist and one of Naarm’s most versatile selectors. Pulling from UK, Caribbean and Latin influences, bbsanii’s sets move freely through rhythm, bass and everything in between.

@heyimdozie
One of Melbourne’s most respected voices in dance music. Moving through UKG, house, breaks and beyond, dozie brings playful selections, big energy and a proper connection with the room.

@garcon.wav
Holding down the Is That Garage? sound from day one. Taking things deeper as the night builds with rolling grooves, UKG pressure and the sounds that have shaped the series.

@too.cosy_
Closing things out with a special 2 hour set. Expect bass-driven selections, genre-bending blends and a proper journey through garage, breaks and beyond.
UKG. Bassline. Two-step.
