Thrilled to announce our main Autumn exhibition, marking the first anniversary of our program and the artist’s first exhibition in Europe!

ITEM IDEM is pleased to present 𝐿’𝒾𝒹𝑒𝓃𝓉𝒾𝒻𝒾𝒸𝒶𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝒶𝓋𝑒𝒸 𝓁’𝒶𝓊𝓉𝓇𝑒 (Identification with the Other) on view from October 14 – November 14, 2026. This installation by 𝙺𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚎 𝙶𝚎𝚝𝚝𝚢 takes the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles as a point of departure, transforming the gallery’s storefront into a mirrored environment of self-projection, estrangement, and theatrical display. Bringing together etched mirrors, sculptural self-portraits, altered domestic objects, and editioned merchandise, the presentation extends Getty’s self-mythology into a staged encounter with visibility, consumption, and the performance of identity within contemporary visual culture.

Her work explores the complexities of identity, cultural conformity, and inherited legacies, reflecting on the ways social codes shape the self. Her recent work delves into these themes through sculptural chairs, mirror sigils, and candle work, offering a critical examination of the tension between individuality and societal expectations.

A crater marks a wound; a cradle holds a beginning. Both inhabit the same vessel: carved out when something leaves its prior shape to make room for what comes next.

Grounded in friendship, road trips, birth, and queer kinship, Yao Yuan presents an excerpt from their first book “1 2 3 2 1”, alongside photographs made with Nagakura Nami and a new moving image work. Exploring change as an elusive, visceral, and cyclical process, this constellation looks closely at moments when destruction and creation occur at once, when one state gives way to another.

Anchoring intimate personal histories within broader natural and social landscapes, Yuan traces queer intimacy and time. Their work attends to the emotional temperature of bodies, spaces, and everyday fragments, placing them in charged and sometimes uncanny relationships.

In Body Double 35, Brice Dellsperger restages the second scene of Xanadu (1980, Robert Greenwald). Performed by François Chaignaud, choreographer and dancer, lively muses emerge dancing from a painted wall, wearing dresses designed by the artist Marc-Camille Chaimowicz. For an exhibition at the Swiss Institute, Brice Dellsperger had this mural reproduced. In a reversal, the creation of the set precedes the idea of the film and even becomes its origin. The whole balance seems affected by this: the shots are inverted, and Kira (Olivia Newton-John) dances in a reverse movement until she freezes into the wall. The loop is complete.

Brice Dellsperger (b. 1972) has been working since 1995 on remakes of sequences from cult films, which he brings together under the generic title Body Double. The doubling of the actor or actress, who plays all the characters, both female and male, involves cross-dressing and raises questions about gender, originality, and artifice.

He has participated in numerous exhibitions around the world and his work is included in permanent public collections such as Centre Pompidou (Paris, France), Goetz Collection (Munich, Germany), and MoMA (New York, USA), among many others.

Beyond thrilled & honored to announce this new project ❤️‍🔥🩷💜

𝙱𝚘𝚍𝚢 𝙳𝚘𝚞𝚋𝚕𝚎 𝙱𝟶𝟶𝚂𝚃 is a multipart survey of the work of artist and filmmaker @dellsperger curated by award-winning film editor Ael Dallier Vega for @item_idem.

Developed in close collaboration with the artist, the program will unfold across a series of propositions throughout 2026 and 2027, focusing on specific works from the entire 𝑩𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝑫𝒐𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒆 ensemble, created by Brice Dellsperger over the past three decades.

The project places particular emphasis on notions of -maxxing and cosmetic uplift, as well as on contemporary technologies, including AI upscaling models, to restore and reanimate degraded analogue videos. By revisiting and reframing themes intrinsically linked to the core of Dellsperger’s practice, 𝙱𝚘𝚍𝚢 𝙳𝚘𝚞𝚋𝚕𝚎 𝙱𝟶𝟶𝚂𝚃 proposes alternative perspectives on aesthetic, its construction and amplification, and the desires, fantasies, and technologies that shape our perception of it.

The project is equally invested in a question that runs beneath any act of conservation: what does it mean to restore a work that ages, whether painting or video? The 𝑴𝒐𝒏𝒂 𝑳𝒊𝒔𝒂’s restorations aimed to preserve; while the restoration of the video medium can transform, and rebuilding degraded material doesn’t just repair an image, but it can also remake it. That ambiguity is where 𝙱𝚘𝚍𝚢 𝙳𝚘𝚞𝚋𝚕𝚎 𝙱𝟶𝟶𝚂𝚃 positions itself : at the threshold where restoration becomes authorship, and originality itself is put in question.
