Every item that comes through our doors starts with a person who decided it was worth keeping. "The Case for ReUse," produced in collaboration with @photosynthesis.productions and @macre_ithaca, looks at the people who make that happen.

In Tompkins County, Finger Lakes ReUse does more than keep good materials out of the landfill. We create jobs, teach skills, and open doors. Through ReSET job training and apprenticeships, neighbors build careers. Through the ReUse Material Access Program (ReMAP), neighbors in a tough moment get the materials they need. And all along the way, a donated chair, a repaired laptop, or a salvaged board becomes something more: a paycheck, a new skill, a place to belong.

Watch to see how reuse strengthens our community, our economy, and our environment, one person and one second life at a time.

"The Case for ReUse" is based upon work supported under a grant by the Rural Utilities Service, United States Department of Agriculture. Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the Rural Utilities Service.

The Case for ReUse is officially LIVE. 🎬✨
This short documentary explores the systemic impact of @ithacareuse in Tompkins County — moving beyond powerful waste diversion to examine the human engine driving the mission: workforce development, apprenticeships, the ReMAP program, and building authentic community belonging.
While we’re excited to share this film, it’s far more than a single release. This project marks the launch of an ongoing media storytelling partnership between MACRE and Finger Lakes ReUse.
Grounded in community media models, we’re moving away from transactional production to build a permanent, collective media infrastructure — making videos with and for local organizations, not just about them.
👉 Head to the Substack link in our bio to watch the full movie and read the full story on where this project is headed!

Halloween doesn't require new. It requires confidence and commitment to the bit. Cayuga ReUse Center provides the wardrobe. The confidence part? That's all the person in the mirror. by @ithacareuse

Cue the music - We’re happy to announce that we are opening Donations Acceptance at the new Cayuga ReUse Center (2309 N. Triphammer Road)starting Friday, October 2nd, from 10 am - 4 pm.

We really appreciate the support and understanding we have received as we temporarily paused accepting donated materials, giving us time to process many of your generously donated items. We worked hard to process your donated items while creating an updated donation space that is convenient for our donors and safe for our workers. Learn more about some changes ReUse has made to our donation acceptance process via the link in our bio.

We look forward to seeing you soon! by @ithacareuse

Puzzles at the Ithaca ReUse Center and Cayuga ReUse Center start at $1 each. That's a small price to pay for figuring out if you actually like puzzles or if you just thought you did.

Spoiler alert: probably not. Now there's a puzzle in your closet and you learned something about yourself. by @ithacareuse

Recently in Ithaca we celebrated the new Finger Lakes ReUse location in Lansing! Not only is shopping second-hand more affordable, it is also more sustainable. I’m looking forward to seeing what this new ReUse location has to offer. by @ithacareuse

It doesn’t take much to make your apartment feel more like home! All you need are thoughtful personal touches to set the right vibe.

Our top tip? Hit local thrift, antique, and consignment stores (Finger Lakes ReUse (@ithacareuse), Found in Ithaca (@foundinithaca), Mimi’s Attic (@mimisatticithaca)) to find hidden treasures at an affordable price.

🤙 Find housing with CSP Management at our site!
